WEST MANCHESTER — Sherman L. "Skip" Padgett, 84, of West Manchester passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, at home in West Manchester.
He was born in West Manchester, to the late Sherman Padgett and Mildred Bennett. Sherman joined the United States Navy at a young age and served during Vietnam and traveled all over the world while serving his country honorably. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He was the 1st Vice Commander in 2024 at the American Legion Post #665, West Manchester. Skip had many hobbies and passions in life. Through the years he loved the game of golf whether it was watching it on television or playing the game. He enjoyed putting miles on bicycles and motorcycles. His love of music included playing guitars and singing.
He was preceded in death by his father Sherman Padgett, his mother Mildred Bennett Padgett, wife Kathryn L. Padgett, and siblings Robert (Bob) Padgett, and Darlene Strawser.
He is survived by his siblings Donna Upton, Sandra Duke (Jim Stockslager), Nancy Johnson (Bob Johnson), his partner Becky Arthur, Sherman's children: Cassandra L Messina, Dawn E. Stutes, Sherman W. Padgett, and Charles D. Padgett. He is also survived by many grand- and great-grandchildren.
Family and friends were received and a memoral service held on Sunday, Dec. 8, at the American Legion Post #322, West Alexandria, with military honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard. Gard Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Eaton is assisting with arrangements.
