Doris M. Smith

Doris "Dotte" Marlena Smith, age 94, passed peacefully on July 28, 2025 surrounded by her children and family at Mansfield Place, located in Essex Junction, VT. She was the daughter of Stanley and Rose Otto of Cochranville, PA.

She is predeceased by her husband Harold Smith who passed away in 2013. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Sherri) Merlo of San Antonio, TX, her son, Dr. Richard Smith and his wife Margaret, of Presto, PA, her daughter Patricia (Trish) Scott of Fairfax, VT and her son Jeffrey Smith and his wife Pamela of Douglas, MA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Tim Conte and his wife Kristine of South Natick, MA, Nick Conte and his wife Marietta of Harvard, MA, Lisa Fecteau and her husband Dan of Northboro, MA, Madilyn Gatewood and her husband Patrick of Douglas, MA, Danielle Corrow and her husband Joe of Grand Isle, VT and Celia Smith of Douglas, MA. She is additionally survived by six great grandchildren- Rocco Conte, Tyler and Andrew Fecteau, Henry Apolinino Conte, and Keegan and Lorelei Gatewood, in addition to her friend Doug Jenks.

Dotte worked for Pepperidge Farm in Pennsylvania for many years where she also volunteered for the Red Cross. When she and Harold lived in Riyadh and Dhahran, Saudi Arabia during the early to mid 1980's she worked as a telephone operator for the Army Corp of Engineers.

Dotte raised her 4 children with her husband Harold in Pennsylvania and Vermont. She spent over 20 years living in Pharr, Texas where she and Harold retired. She volunteered at McAllen Veterans Outpatient Clinic in the Pharmacy Department during that time period as well.

Dotte will be remembered fondly for her quick smile, friendly nature, kindness, and compassion.

A celebration of her life will be held on October 25, 2025 in Newport, Vermont for her family.
