WATERBURY - Amalia (Mazzettini) Palmieri, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Monday, October 13, 2025 at Waterbury Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Amalia was the loving wife of the late Raffaele Palmieri for 64 years.
Amalia was born in Gioia, Sannitica, Italy on October 14, 1937, son of the late Giuseppe Antonio and Maria Rosaria (Sorbo) Mazzettini. She came to Waterbury with her family on July 1, 1968. She retired from Mattatuck Manufacturing after over 25 years of service. Amalia was a devoted Roman Catholic parishioner of St. Peter and Paul's Church and most recently of St Leo's the Great.
She leaves behind four daughters, Maria Mancini Palmieri and her partner Jose Borges of Beacon Falls; Pierina Goncalves and her husband Carlos of Waterbury; Patrizia Aleandri and her husband Thomas of Woodbury; Rosaria Yardito and her husband Domenic of Bethlehem. She leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother Michele Mazzettini and her sisters Natalina Panzin, Pierina Pizzasegola and Inessa Foroni, all of Italy. She was predeceased by her two sons, Antonio and Umberto Palmieri and three brothers Salvatore, Domenico and Carmine.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St at Southmayd Rd., Waterbury, CT 06705, to St Leo's the Great Church, 14 Bentwood Dr., Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Calvary Queen of Peace Mausoleum.
