Brian Hobart Obituary

Brian T. Hobart
Brian T. "Sheriff" Hobart, age 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
Born on August 21, 1950, Brian was the son of the late Patrick F. and Margaret "Peg" (Driscoll) Hobart Sr. and was a proud and lifelong resident of Waterbury, Connecticut.
Brian attended Bunker Hill Elementary School, where he made some of his lifelong friends. Brian briefly attended Sacred Heart High School, although he liked to remind us, he was asked by Fr. Blanchfield to continue his education elsewhere and graduated from St. Thomas More School.
He attended college in Dodge City, Kansas, at St. Mary of the Plains, where he excelled in baseball over academics. Brian went on to play professionally in the Kansas City Royals farm system, leading the Kansas City Athletic Conference in batting. He continued his athletic prowess in local, regional, and state softball leagues, frequently being awarded MVP in his 12-year career. His favorite statistic, even more than his .496 batting average, was that he was never once thrown out on base.
The two greatest loves in his life were his daughters, Jamie (Josh) Lambo of Middlebury, CT, and Kate (Alex) Glass of East Greenwich, RI, proudly sharing their achievements and antics with friends. Brian's proudest moments were those as "Papa" to his four grandchildren: Logan (7) and Lucas (3) Lambo, and Henry (10) and Hadley (6) Glass. He was a supporter of all their athletic pursuits, enjoyed their living room wrestling matches, and was a known instigator of dinner table misbehavior. He loved homemade cheesecakes and cigars with his son-in-law, Josh, following the Navy career of his son-in-law, Alex. He watched and rewatched videos of Henry on the baseball diamond and loved to receive Hadley's drawings. He happily attended all of Logan's games, and dinners with Lucas at Texas Roadhouse were always on the calendar. Kate loved joining him for rounds of golf at Country Club of Waterbury and Chippanee, and his daughter, Jamie, was his greatest supporter, friend, and caretaker.
With friends, Brian was rarely without a joke, well-known for his generosity, quick wit, and unending sense of humor. He took great pleasure in a Coors Light with friends and family, a cigar with his sons-in-law, and endless laughs with his grandchildren. His home away from home was Domar's, regaling friends with grand and storied recollections of his own years of bar ownership that started with JP Sullivan's Saloon and included City Hall Cafe. His favorite hobby was a friendly wager on a golf match, or just about anything else, wishing for "just one more round with Fritzy" at the end.
Left to mourn this tremendous loss are his daughters and their families, his nephews, Parker SantaLucia and Patrick Hobart, and many longtime friends that became family. Jamie, his eldest daughter and closest confidant, will carry on "Sheriff's" legacy with the continuation of their Center Street State Marshal's office.
Brian was predeceased by his parents, his beloved brother, Patrick "Paddy" F. Hobart, Jr. and Carol Hobart SantaLucia, and many great friends. We are certain he's since been reunited with Hank, his favorite bulldog that worshipped him with unwavering devotion (despite belonging to Jamie and being allergic to nearly every treat Papa sneaked him).
Brian's funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Loreto Church, 12 Ardsley Rd., Waterbury. To the Hobart Family,
Our deepest condolences to the entire family and Brains's friends. I knew Brian since grammar school. He was always happy, friendly, competitive and an excellent athlete. I remember when I was playing college ball and Brian scored 16 points while playing for ST. Thomas Moore! He always participated against people older. We loved the large glass of wine he served at the Restaurant!!!!!!!!!!! I will always remember him! Always, Peter Constance
