Franklin Nejame Obituary

Dr. Franklin F. Nejame
March 4, 1933 - Oct 5, 2025
Dr. Franklin Francis Nejame, 92, passed away peacefully after a long illness, on October 5, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Ostendorf Nejame.
Franklin was the son of the late Samuel and Matilda (Ellis) Nejame and was raised in Waterbury, Connecticut where he graduated from Crosby high school class of 1950. He went on to study at the University of Connecticut and was a founding member of the Beta Epsilon Rho fraternity. Franklin later went on to medical school at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he completed his Doctor of Medicine. After an internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL, Franklin completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore, MD, where he later met his wife Elizabeth. Franklin and Elizabeth Nejame were long-time residents of Middlebury, CT, where they raised their six children and cherished their neighborhood friends and local community.
Franklin had a private OB/GYN practice in Waterbury, CT and the surrounding towns. He delivered babies and took care of patients at Saint Mary's Hospital for over 35 years. He and his wife, Elizabeth, along with their daughter Celeste, operated the Wee Care Nursery and Daycare Center in Waterbury for 25 years.
Franklin loved to travel, especially to Egypt, and was always trying to get to Lebanon over the years but was unable to. He spent many winters in Ixtapa, Mexico, where he had so many kind and loving friends. After his retirement from his medical practice, he enjoyed painting the masterpieces from Van Gogh, Picasso, Degas, and many others.
Franklin was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth. He is survived by his children: Franklin Nejame of Southbury, CT; Neil Nejame and his wife, Melissa, of Rumson, NJ; Stephanie Nejame-Cintrón and her husband, Gamaliel, of Cypress, TX; Jennifer Scherr and her husband, Douglas, of Scarsdale, NY; and Elizabeth Williams, of New York, NY. He also leaves behind nine beloved grandchildren: Andrew, Sophie, Ian; Charlie; Neil Jr., Sarah, and Christopher; Armistead, and Fielding. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law, Barbara Thornton, and Valerie Nejame, and many treasured friends. Franklin was predeceased by his daughter Celeste; two brothers, Samuel Nejame and Ernest Nejame; and his 3 sisters, Annabelle Shuhart, Julia Guglielmo, and Maryanne Castelano.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his health aides, Sophia, Debbie, Denise, Teresa, and Corine and the Hospice of New York.
