Oakville: John Stukshis, 65 of Morro St., passed away peacefully Sunday, August 24, 2025 surrounded by family.
He was born in Waterbury on August 19, 1960, son of the late Mary Helen (Bailey) and Edward Stukshis. John was a graduate of Watertown High school where he excelled in baseball most notably as a pitcher. He worked in Watertown as a machine operator until his self-imposed retirement. John loved fishing, golfing, clamming, gardening, and being stubborn. He was affectionately remembered as Uncle beer can - when he wasn't holding a Budweiser he was holding a prized vegetable from the garden or a fish he caught. He loved taking family fishing or having his annual Super Bowl party where his beloved Minnesota Vikings or the "Vicodins" as he liked to call them were not playing in. When his health no longer allowed him to work in the garden, he was more than happy to micromanage from his kitchen window. He will be missed.
John is survived by his daughter Michelle of Oakville. Brothers Edward and his wife Joyce of Lakeside, Mark and his wife Ginny of Bantam. Sisters – Mary and her husband Rich of Watertown, Linda and her husband Stephen Rosato of Florence, VT, Irene and her husband Doug Grossman of Salt Lake City, UT, and Grace Stukshis of Oakville. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday morning August 28th at Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
