John J. "Jack" Synkewecz
John J. "Jack" Synkewecz, 88, formerly of Waterbury and Watertown, passed away on November 11, 2025, at home, in Rocky Hill.
Jack was born in Waterbury, son of the late Joseph and Antoinette (Zuburis) Synkewecz. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School and then attended Marianapolis Preparatory School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and after completing his service he began his 40+ year career at CL&P/Northeast Utilities.
A fun-loving and avid sportsman, Jack's enthusiasm for the game, whether playing, coaching or spectating, was infectious. This love was not just about the scores, but about the people, the stories, the strategies and the sheer joy of play. In his retirement years, Jack spent winters on St. Croix, enjoying his lifelong passion for golf. He was blessed with treasured lifelong friends, whom he always kept close in his heart.
Jack leaves two sisters, Sister Mary Alice Synkewecz of the Sisters of Mercy, Hartford, CT and Carol Synkewecz of Fernandina Beach, FL; his daughter, Susan Lussier and her husband, Al of Lakeside, CT; his grandchildren, Victoria and AJ; and his nieces and nephews, including great and grand, as well as his cherished friends. Jack was pre-deceased by two sisters, Sister Dorothy Synkewecz of the Sisters of Mercy and Ruth Sturman.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Jack's wonderful caregivers who truly became like family, with a heartfelt thanks to Lauren with whom he shared an extraordinary bond.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 17, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 309 South Main Street, Waterbury. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.
