Katherine "Dale" Alves (Gross), 89, passed peacefully on November 11, 2025, at Keystone Place at Newbury Brook, Torrington, CT. She was born May 15, 1936, in Torrington, and was married to the late David Alves for over 50 years, until his death in 2019. In addition to her husband, Dale was predeceased by her mother, Dorothea Davis (Holt), stepfather, Harry Davis, brothers, Charles Gross and Richard (Antonia) Gross, and her many beloved dogs and cats.
She will be deeply missed by her loving son, Richard (Darci) Alves, who was the proudest accomplishment in her life. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Virginia Ehlinger, four grandchildren, Daniel (Kimberly) Alves, Christina (Michael) Ruzbasan, Melissa (Timothy) Carbone, her namesake, Katherine Alves, and her nine great grandchildren, Daniel, Domenick, Emily, Charlotte, Mikayla, Thomas, Samantha, Paityn and Josh.
She lived a life dedicated to family, being the best mother, grandma and "GG" to her great-grandchildren. Her family will remember her unwavering support and dedication to knowing each one of them personally. She loved music and listened to everything from the rock and roll she grew up with to Bruno Mars. She even began a love for the Backstreet Boys after taking her granddaughters to a concert, because she would not have missed that memory with them.
Dale kept a small group of close friends that were more like family, including Ann, her best friend from childhood and her husband, Bill, and longtime friend, Father Larry. Those close with her enjoyed her stories of younger days, racing her pink and white Ford Victoria around Torrington and how she was famously on the cover of the Flood of 1955 book. Dale always told the people she cared about that she loved them, including her caregivers at Keystone, whom she cherished and adored. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Keystone, with special attention to the Applewood unit, who made sure she had a little coffee with her cup of sugar right up until her final days.
Dale was an avid animal lover and, in lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask that donations be made to the Little Guild or to the
Alzheimer's Association.
Funeral Services will be held Nov. 24, at 11 AM at Phalen Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service from 10-11 AM.
