Maria V. Mikletonas
"Beloved mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother and sister"
Maria (Valletta) Mikletonas, 98, of Prospect, was reunited with her husband, son, and grandson in heaven on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in the comfort of her home, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Bruno A. Mikletonas, who predeceased her in 1997.
Maria was born in Waterbury, CT, on June 3, 1927, a daughter of the late Joseph and Rosalie (Grillo) Valletta. She was a graduate of Leavenworth High School, Class of 1945 and attended Post Junior College for 2 years. Before her retirement, she worked for Uniroyal Inc. in Naugatuck for 15 years and, later, worked as a cook for East View Manor in Prospect for 15 years, retiring in 1990.
A devoted Catholic, Maria was a longtime communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Prospect and a member of their Silver Belles Prayer Group as well as their Prayer Line. Always loving to stay active, Maria was also a member of the Golden Circle Sunshine Club, Northwest Chapter, the Prospect Senior Center, Ladies in Red, a chaplain at the Winona Rebekah #8 at the Odd Fellows Temple and Friends of the Prospect Public Library.
Maria leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Karen Furtado and her husband, Edward of Bradford, RI, and John Mikletonas and his wife, Maria of Wolcott, CT, daughter-in-law, Vivienne Mikletonas of Oakville, CT, and a sister, Diane Gule of Plymouth. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Gina Knez and her husband, Jeff, John Furtado, her great-grandchild, Juliam Knez, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Bernard Mikletonas, grandson, Bill Mikletonas, her brother, Daniel Valletta, and sister, Vilma Santopietro.
Maria's family would like to thank Constellation Home Care for the exceptional care they gave to Maria over the past 10 months, particularly her nurse, Pat, and caregiver, Mbali Ngobese.
Arrangements: Maria's funeral will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 8:45 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial, The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT, to St. Anthony's Church in Prospect for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
