Raymond H. Behr, 74, of Westbrook, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Middlesex Health Shoreline Medical Center in Westbrook with his family by his side. He was married for 51 years to Janet (Indrysek) Behr, his high school sweetheart.
Born in Waterbury on May 12, 1951, Ray was the son of the late Theresa A. (LeClerc) and William E. Behr, Sr. Ray graduated from Kennedy High School, earned a degree in Business Administration from Western Connecticut State University, and later received a Master's in Counseling and a Physical Education State Certification from Southern Connecticut State University.
Ray spent his career as a physical education teacher at St. Margaret's-McTernan School/Chase Collegiate School, where he also served as Athletic Director. He coached cross country, baseball, and girl's basketball, guiding countless students with encouragement and care.
During retirement, Ray found peace on his front porch, surrounded by his flowers and looking out over the Long Island Sound. He also loved reading and cheering for the Boston Red Sox, but his greatest joy was time spent with his children, grandchildren, family and friends who meant the world to him.
In addition to his wife, Janet (Cricket), he is survived by his children Jennifer LaCapra and her husband Joseph of Woodbury, Kimberly Caiazzo and her husband Jared of Watertown, and Stephen Behr and his partner, Shay Bryan of Waterford. He will be remembered by his grandchildren, Leo LaCapra and Saverio and Lola Caiazzo, and by his siblings, Susan Steward and her husband, Joe of Oakville, Debbie Behr of Wolcott, Teresa Capone and her husband, Bob of Waterbury, William E. Behr, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, along with several nieces and nephews.
To his family and friends, Ray leaves not only memories of love and laughter, but also his well-known phrase, "Beyond, Beyond," a reminder to always reach further and live fully.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 25, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 182 Robbins St., Waterbury, CT. Please meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The family is planning a Celebration of Life at a later date. Chase Parkway Memorial/Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT has been entrusted with his arrangements.
