BETHLEHEM – Rita Marlene Luth (McDermott), 90, of Bethlehem, died on December 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Ronald Luth.
Marlene was born on August 4, 1935. Daughter to the late Andrew McDermott and Hazel Beckwith McDermott. She grew up in Middlebury and attended Wilby Highschool. She married Ronald in 1956 and together they spent 69 years together raising their three daughters. She worked at LeCordon Bleu restaurant as a waitress and enjoyed working as a caregiver at First Steps Learning Center in Middlebury. Above all she cherished her time spent with her family.
Besides her husband, Marlene is survived by her three daughters, Jody and Jamie Zambero of Bethlehem, Dana and Alan Dayton of Woodbury, Tracy and Charlie Fenn of Watertown; her sister Velma Fox; her brother-in-law Donald Luth; her sister-in-law Mary Luth; eleven grandchildren, Mark Zambero (Jamie), Lisa Zambero Daly (Matt), Ryan Dayton (Lisa), Erin Dayton Bono (Mike), Scott Dayton (Liz) Stephen Dayton (Ashley), Brianna Fenn, Connor Fenn (Tatiana), Joseph Fenn (Hope), Timothy Fenn (Lisa), Carly Kasidas (Ray), and sixteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Marlene was predeceased by her brothers, Robert McDermott, and Andrew McDermott.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ivy at Watertown and River Glen Southbury for their care and compassion for Marlene. A special heartfelt thanks goes to Lynne Guertin, her long-time caregiver and friend for her devotion and support for many years.
A memorial mass will be held at St John the Evangelist Church, 574 Main Street Watertown on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, 10:00 a.m. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at church. Burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery is private. Calling hours will be held at Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main Street, Watertown on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 from 4-6 p.m.
