Carol van der Hoop Obituary

Carol Ann van der Hoop died April 5th at her home in the presence of her family after a long battle with cancer, she was 53. She is survived by her husband Daniel and her three children: Sarah, Benjamin, and Peter. Born in Fort Worth, TX to Darrel and Frances Martin her family soon relocated to Loveland, CO where she grew up. It was while attending CSU that she met her husband Dan. They were married in the fall of 1984. Carol saw every situation as a teaching moment and found her stride when she opened her home child care. She ran her own business for over 25 years and helped countless children through early childhood. She loved cooking and was never far away from her sewing machine, making clothing, costumes, and quilts of all sizes. In recent years, Carol and Dan travelled across the country working towards her goal of visiting all 50 states. She loved seeing lighthouses anytime she was near a coast line, taking factory tours, and taking in the beauty of nature. She was a true citizen of Colorado, enjoying camping, canoeing, river rafting, and skiing. Carol was the perfect spouse, a caring mom, and the best teacher. She was loved and she will be missed. Memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm on Thursday, April 16th at the Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Parish in Loveland. An additional celebration of life will be held on April 18th at the family home in Boulder. Please contact the family for details: 303-449-6479 or [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, please consider taking your family to the Denver Zoo or the Museum of Nature and Science.

To all the Van der Hoop family, we send our deepest condolences. We were shocked to see the obituary in the paper. Though we haven't seen any of you in a long time we hold fond memories of Carol and your family. Our son Marco had such a great time at your home with all the other kids and under Carol's loving care so many years ago. She was a wonderful caregiver and I appreciated her TLC at a time in my life caring for Marco while I was caregiving my mom. We will hold the memories of her dearly and we hope that all the wonderful memories you have of her will be kept close to your hearts too.Unfortunately we cannot attend the celebration of her life with you tomorrow, but our thoughts are with you.
much love,

Carol was a beautiful spirit that brought so much support into my life. She was always there for my family and I sewing curtains, quilts, working with Girl Scouts. She always had advice when asked, and she never put judgement on you if you didn't know the answer yourself. She was a fantastic teacher and she deserved an award for her fabulous Childcare Business. She shared SIMs tips and had such a love for life. Most of all I will remember her as a loving wife to Dan, mom to her 3 children and a great friend. I will miss her.
