Opal Hamby

Opal (Opie) Hamby, age 81, passed away November 6, 2014. Opie was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Edith Manes, two brothers, five sisters and husband Marvin Hamby. Opie is survived by brother Gene Manes, sister Erma Payne, daughter Roxanne Mace, son David Thomas, step-sons Howard, Rick and Mike Hamby, step-daughter Kathy Glaze, 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Opie was born in Bolivar, MO. She moved to Davenport, IA in 1958. She managed a Maid Rite for many years. Later she and her best friend Dianne Brekke owned a restaurant called Opie & Dianne's. Opie moved to Cañon City, CO and spent 35 years there. Three years ago she moved to live with her daughter in Loveland, CO after the death of her husband. Opie was extremely creative, she loved crocheting, quilting, and designing jewelry. She loved giving away her creations. Opie was a strong Christian woman who had a wonderful sense of humor and made everyone around her feel special. She was loved by countless friends and adored by her family. Her legacy is love and generosity. Opie's memorial service will be held on November 22, 2014 at the First Southern Baptist Church, 1500 North 10th Street, Cañon City, CO 81212 at 10:30 A.M. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Safe Harbor 1424 16th Avenue, Longmont, CO 80501.
