Robert Forrest Obituary

Bob Forrest was born on May 10, 1912, in Sedalia, Kentucky and died in Loveland, Colorado on September 24, 2012 at the age of 100. Bob graduated from the University of Illinois and worked in the insurance business for more than 35 years. He and Lillian (Warrick) Forrest were married on May 21, 1938, in Kent, Indiana. He served as a tank commander in the 6th Armored Division in World War II, was involved in the Battle of Bulge, and during his time of service was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and a Silver Star. He served as head usher at the First United Methodist Church of Loveland for many years. Bob led by example and inspired all who had the good fortune to know him. He was never without a sense of humor and a pocket full of candy. Bob lived in his own home until the age of 94 and drove his car until age 98. In recent years he lived independently at the Wexford and contentedly called it his home. In early 2012, requiring more assistance, he moved to Lakeview Commons. He was grateful to meet so many wonderful residents and staff at the Wexford and Lakeview Commons, who joined some 200 others to celebrate his 100th birthday in May. Bob brought his life to a close with spunk, grace and acceptance. His wife Lillian predeceased him in 1983. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Nichols, granddaughter Ashley Nichols Kasprzak and husband David of Loveland, and granddaughter Meghan Nichols Winokur and husband Jason of Boulder, great-grandchildren Jared Kasprzak, Brody Kasprzak, Thatcher Winokur and Genevieve Winokur, special friend Juanita Dunlap and Tiffany Hartley, whom he loved as a granddaughter. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church, 522 N. Grant Ave., Loveland, Colorado at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church bell choir or Pathways Hospice in care of Viegut Funeral Home. Go to www.viegutfuneralhome.com for condolences.

Think of you all the time Bob. Your angel wings are on my bracelet that I wear every single day. I bought them just to remember you. Lloyd and I are so glad that Mom brought you into our lives. We are all better to have known you. She misses you so much. We miss you so much. Love you forever, Bob.

We have ever known anyone as special as Bob. He was just so kind, thoughtful, interested in you. He touched so many lives and he will be so very missed. Our family all loved him so much, and our Mom is so lost without him. We will never, ever, forget Bob. Prayers to all the family.

Cindy,
I loved your dad and his sense of humor. He was always so sweet to me when he visited the church office, while I was Treasurer at First Methodist. He always had a smile and we loved teasing each other.
You and your family are in my prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all Ashley. It sounds like your grandfather was an amazing man who served well and fought the good fight...truly a good life and I'm certain he was a treasure to all who knew him...he's part of a generation our society will greatly miss. The current generation would be wise to study the wisdom your grandfather's generation has. Thoughts and prayers!

We are so sad at the news of Bob's passing. We looked forward to seeing him every Thanksgiving when his warmth, humor and presence made the gathering extra special. He was a truly caring, special and wonderful man and we will miss him a lot.
