Dorothy Baker Obituary

Dorothy "Elaine" Baker

Abilene, TX

Dorothy Elaine Baker, age 72, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, May 17, 2017. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 3:00PM at the First Methodist Church in Potosi with burial following in Potosi cemetery. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday evening from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street.

She is survived by two children; her son, Randy Spraberry of Abilene; her daughter, Stephanie Long of Justin, Texas; a granddaughter, Ashton Long of Justin, Texas; two step-daughters, Julie Wagner and husband James of Tuscola, Tamara Dorwart and husband Ray of Guthrie, Oklahoma; five step-grandchildren; brother, David Moore, and wife Liz of Abilene; numerous nieces and nephews, and wonderful caregiver and friend, Deborah Ellington.

Elaine was born in Fort Worth on January 7, 1945. She grew up on the T41 ranch and farm at Spur, Texas. She was an avid horseback rider. Her favorite horse was Sleepy Jim. She helped work the farm and performed all manner of tasks on the ranch.

She graduated from Abilene High School in 1964. She worked from 1966 at Abilene Social Security Administration until her retirement in 1996. She worked as a part time office clerk at First Baptist Church of Abilene for approximately five years. One of her greatest joys after retirement was her goat ranch in Menard, Texas.

She was a faithful member of the Potosi Methodist Church and played for services there for many years until her health wouldn't allow her to continue.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Jack Moore; brothers, Rudy and Michael Moore, Sr.; her first husband, Bruce Spraberry and husband of thirty five years, Wayne S. Baker.

She was an integral part of many lives and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made to Interim Hospice, Alzheimer's Foundation, or Wisteria Place Legacy Lane.
