Dorthy Meador Obituary
ABILENE, TX
Dorthy Ella Meador, 81 of Abilene, passed away Monday, November 7, 2016 in Abilene. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, November 11, 2016 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
Service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, November 12, 2016 in the funeral home chapel followed by a graveside service at 3:30 PM in the Gouldbusk Cemetery in Coleman County.
Dorthy was born in Gouldbusk, Texas on January 25, 1935. On March 14, 1953, she married Lester Meador in Coleman, TX. She and Lester moved to Abilene in 1961 from Eastland, TX. She enjoyed her job as a bookkeeper at Abilene Bookkeeping for many years. She also kept active with volunteer work. She began volunteering with her church, Southern Hills Church of Christ and donated her time to help the Boy Scouts of America, Brownies and Girl Scouts Programs. Dorthy and Lester made a home for exchange student Carlos Martez. He lived with them and graduated from Cooper High School in 1974.
Dorthy is preceded in death by her parents, husband Lester Meador, one son, Randy Darrell Meador. Brothers, David Puckett, Joe Puckett and Carroll Puckett. She is also preceded by a daughterinlaw, Karla Meador and soninlaw Robert Lanham.
Dorthy is survived by her son, Dale Meador & wife Paula of Abilene. Two adopted sons, Steven David White of Abilene & Mikeal Keith White of Rawlins, Wyoming. Daughter, Brenda Elleene Lanham of Clyde. Daughterinlaw, Cindy Meador of Buffalo Gap, TX. One sister, Katherine Wynn of Ft. Worth. Five grandchildren & nine greatgrandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces & nephews.
Family request memorials be made to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory St., Abilene, TX 79601. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Online condolences may be made at www.hamilfamilyfuneralhome.com
