Garland Glen Payne, 84, passed away March 1, 2018. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. March 6, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Hamlin. Burial will be in the Hamlin Memorial Cemetery directed by Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home.

Born August 24, 1933, in Putnam, Garland was the son of the late Melvin and Annie Viola (Lisenbee) Payne. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Garland married the love of his life Iva Lassiter on March 1, 1952, in Cisco. He worked for the Texas Highway Department for 37 years and 9 months inspecting and surveying roads and highways. Garland enjoyed going fishing and researching Veteran affairs on his computer. He was an ordained deacon in the First Baptist Church 1963.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Joyce Ann Cunningham, and one brother, Ronnie Payne.

Survivors include his wife, Iva Payne of Cisco; one sister, Jessie Wright, five brothers, Larry Payne and wife Wanda, Wesley Payne and wife Shirley, Vernon Payne and wife Sheila, Lonnie Payne and Rex Payne and wife Brenda; one grandson, Andy Cunningham and wife Taylor Ashley Moeller-Cunningham; two great-grandchildren, Knox Cunningham and Kennadie Cunningham.
