Horace Hardin Obituary

Horace Henry Hardin Sr.
Abilene

Horace Henry Hardin Sr. 81 died Saturday at his home. Mr. Hardin was born April 7, 1929 in Abilene to William Hardin and Mary Clackley Hardin. He grew up in Abilene, graduated from Abilene High in 1948 and attended Hardin Simmons University. He was schooled in the restaurant business by such employers as Charlie Langford at the Dixie Pig, Neal Fry in the National Guard kitchens and Mack Eplen. He operated the Abilene Airport Restaurant for 17 years before opening his successful Poco Peso Restaurant at 302 Hickory and later on North First. He also owned the Blue Collar at Pine and Ambler, and the Lamplighter Restaurant on South First.
Mr. Hardin was active in the Texas Restaurant Association and past president of the Abilene Restaurant Association. He was also involved in the Chamber of Commerce, United Way and Business Aid Programs.
Mr. Hardin was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Dorothy Arthur.
He is survived by a daughter Laurie Hope Zibliki and husband Bob in St Paul, MN. And sons Horace "Hank" Hardin and wife Mary of Abilene and Landon Hardin of Oklahoma plus six grandchildren and a close friend Burl McAlister of Abilene.
Visitation will be today from 4-6:00 PM at Girdner Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Monday 10:00 AM in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
