Joanne Elizabeth Rose, 78, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at a local hospital in Abilene, TX. Funeral services will be 10:00a.m., Monday, October 20, 2014 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory St. Burial will be in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. at the funeral home.Joanne was born in Covington, VA on September 30, 1936 to the late Charles and Alice Goff Fridley. She graduated from Covington High School in 1954 and entered the U.S. Air Force in December serving from 1954 - 1963. She married Frank A. Rose on October 9, 1959. Her family moved to Abilene in 1979 from Zaragoza, Spain and she retired in 2005 from Civil Service after 38 years.Joanne enjoyed helping others and going on mission trips with Highland Church of Christ. She was known to put others before herself and will be truly missed.Preceding her in death were her parents; and a grandson, Diamon Gonzalez. Survivors include her son, Frank Rose and wife, Karen; daughter, Jodi Rose Rubio and husband, Joseph; a brother Edward Fridley and a sister, Nancy Fridley both of Virginia; grandchildren, Domingo Gonzalez, Jr., Dakota Rose Gonzalez, Desarai Rose Gonzalez Hay and husband, Eric, Shirdon Brown; and great-grandchildren, Elisia Rose Rueda, and Baelynn Rose Hay. 6 years ago I lost you to a horrible disease. Our time was short upon moving back. You were my best friend. Mom I miss you so much and I just wish I could talk to you just one more time. Just to hug you and tell you how much I love you. Thank you for being my mother. Rest now my dear mother you have completed your hard journey and know that you were and are loved. Joyce

Never was a time that I came to your house and wasn't treated like one of your kids. The fact that you raised 7 children to adulthood by yourself is a testament to many how good a woman you were. I LOVE you and I LOVE your Daughter, that is like you in so many ways. Keep your motherly hand on her shoulder. You are now Joyce's Guardian angel along with all the brothers.

My Dear, Precious Friend, my heart is very saddened to learn of your passing. I think of you SO often, but we never got together like we planned. I have not seen you since the late 70's to early 80's when you used to come to Dallas with your family and stay with me to take little Frank to the Ranger games. You, and I go back to childhood, and you, Nancy, and Edward were the only ones left of my friends that go back that far. I was looking so forward to seeing you on Thursday. You were my fun aunt that loved to laugh all the time. I would get all tickled just listening to you laughing! Joanne family, I am a cousin to Joanne on the Goff side. Sorry to hear of her passing. Glad that she made one of our reunions several years ago in Augusta Springs, Va. She was a good and wonderful person. May she rest in peace.
