Martha was born on July 29, 1930 in Waxahachie, Texas to William Hayden and Beulah Arnwine Scott. She graduated with a wonderful group of folks from Waxahachie High School, Class of 1947. She continued her education and was very active at North Texas State College, receiving her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in June, 1951. Martha moved to Midland to teach school and soon met Roy Carlson. On August 16, 1952, they were married in Waxahachie.

The Carlsons moved to Dallas in 1953 where Martha was a homemaker. Together, they raised their children Scott and Laura while Roy worked for the American Petroleum Institute.

Martha's faith in God was a hallmark of her life. She loved the Bible, finding it to be a comfort and strength during her life. She was very active in church activities and Koinonia ladies fellowship group at Bethany Lutheran Church in Dallas. Martha led and participated in Bible studies of all kinds.

In 1987, Martha and Roy moved to Holly Lake Ranch where they enjoyed living in beautiful East Texas, making many close friends. In 2004, the Carlsons moved to Abilene. After Roy 's death in 2007, Martha moved to Wesley Court where her large circle of friends grew. She especially enjoyed Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.

Martha was a sweet gracious lady whose joy of friends and family never left her despite her recent struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Many long time friends continued to support her during her difficult days dealing with her disease.

Martha was a wonderful friend, cherishing and helping those around her wherever she lived.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband Roy, her parents and her sisters Billie Sue Thompson and Jeanne Freeman. Left to cherish her memory are her son Scott Carlson and his wife Ann Claire and her daughter Laura Carlson Dyer and her husband Ted Dyer. Missing their Grandmommy are Susanna and John Carlson and Alison Dyer Babb (husband Josh), Alex Dyer, Ann Elizabeth Dyer, and great granddaughter Abigail Babb. Also dear to Martha are nieces Kaye Almand and Jan Burleson, their husbands and children, and special family friend,Lillian Neal. Martha especially treasured her Arnwine cousins, the Scott family, and cousins Anne and husband Bill Darland.

The family wishes to thank the loving staff of Walnut Place and Faith Hospice for their care of Martha.

Causes dear to Martha's heart were Young Life, Bible Study Fellowship, Celiac Sprue Assn, East- West Ministries (Mike Fisher), Cru (Gail Williams), Pioneer Drive Baptist Church (Abilene, Texas) and Abilene Education Foundation.
