Patricia Pamplin Obituary

Patricia A. Pamplin

Abilene - Patricia Ann Pamplin, 89, died peacefully January 13, 2021, at Hendrick Hospice Care with her loved ones by her side. Her family will honor her with a memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday January 16, at Hillcrest Church of Christ, 650 E. Ambler Avenue, Abilene, Texas, officiated by Dr. Terry Brown. Interment will be at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery on FM 600 in Abilene, Wednesday January 20, 2021 at 10am.

Pat was born in Brady, March 21, 1931, the third of three children, to Carl L and Mary Ollie Bradley. She earned B.S. and M.Ed. degrees in education from Abilene Christian College and spent many years teaching the Bible to countless children's and ladies' classes. From 1966 to 1971, she and Leonard were missionaries in Hong Kong where sons Kim and Braden were born. After returning from Hong Kong, Pat and Leonard sponsored two Vietnamese refugee families, helping them settle in America, and were foster parents for Shirley Remington, and for Sue, Tom, and Tim To, who were refugees from Cambodia. Pat was a member of the Hillcrest congregation for 41 years, serving as teacher and coordinator for elementary Bible classes, and contributor in the Children's Bible Hour. Hillcrest honored her with the Sybil Faubus Teaching Award for her many years of dedicated service. She also served as the director of the Hillcrest Children's Learning and Development Center for several years. In her retirement, she taught ladies Bible class at Wesley Court Senior Living Retirement Home.

Pat and Leonard married April 2, 1963, and enjoyed 57 years together. Daily devotionals characterized their entire marriage until she entered hospice. Her first husband, Dr. Don Hockaday III, an ACC professor she married in 1952, died in 1957. Pat and Don had two sons who were later adopted by Leonard.

Pat is survived by her husband, Leonard, of Abilene; son Bill Hockaday Pamplin and wife Jill of Zavalla; son David Hockaday Pamplin and wife Suzanne of San Antonio; daughter Shan Martinez and husband Richard of Abilene; and son Dr. Kim Pamplin and wife Galanell of Abilene. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Shaylan Pamplin of Houston; Rachel Pamplin of Minsk, Belarus; Daniel Pamplin and wife Kate of Round Rock; Kimberly Pamplin of College Station; Drew, Brynn, and Jade Martinez, all of Abilene; Madison Pamplin of Austin; Drake Pamplin and wife Jessica of Frisco; and Ashlen Pamplin of Abilene; two great-grandchildren: Abigail and Isabelle Pamplin of Round Rock; and many nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Mary Ollie Bradley, two older sisters Mary Jo Campbell and Betty Kirklin, first husband Dr. Don Hockaday III, and Braden Pamplin, who died in infancy.
