WALTER CLENDENEN Obituary

Walter Warren
Clendenen
Kerrville

Fish rejoice, but the rest of us grieve the loss of Walter Warren Clendenen.
Warren, 91, passed away at Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville, TX on February 7, 2012. He had been suffering from lung problems associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and died peacefully in his sleep.
Warren was born on November 16, 1920 in San Angelo, TX to Walter Lee Clendenen and Ada Leticia Barbee. He grew up mostly on a ranch outside Rankin with three siblings, Bill, Dale, and Jeff.
He married Bernice Lorraine "Jonsey" White July 29, 1941 in Tankersly, TX.
A graduate from Artesia High School in Artesia, NM, he went on to serve in the Navy during World War II.
Warren lived a full life. He worked in road construction and real estate before partly retiring in 1982. During his long retirement he was able to focus on his love of fishing, traveling, country music, working in his shop, and family. Even after his health had deteriorated in the latter years, he enjoyed driving through the countryside with his buddy Charlie, and he refused to sell his boats even after he could no longer use them. He was also famous for lighting up any gathering with his good stories and wonderful sense of humor. Always a fighter, he bravely faced the world until the very end.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife of 70 years, Bernice Clendenen; children Walter Clendenen and Gary Clendenen; ten grandchildren: Janet Kitten, Lorie McMahon, W. Von Clendenen, Aaron Clendenen, Quentin Clendenen, Leonda Clendenen, Llon Clendenen, Leta Langford, Larry Clendenen, and Jason Clendenen; eighteen great-grandchildren: Luke Kitten, Camille Kitten, Laura Kitten, Zane McMahon, Nathan McMahon, Daniel McMahon, Avry Clendenen, Emma Clendenen, Matthew Clendenen, Marley Clendenen, Trystan Clendenen, Wyatt Clendenen, Landon Clendenen, Lawson Clendenen, Heather Clendenen, Cody Phelps, Lindsay Clendenen, and Kyle Clendenen; and one great-great-grandchild: Catie Phelps. Warren often showed his pride in his family by saying, "We're the ones that got this whole mess started."
Warren was predeceased by his parents, his son Leon Clendenen, brother, Bill Clendenen, sister, Dale Perkins, and brother, Jeff Clendenen. How sweet it would be to witness their reunion.
The funeral service will take place Saturday February 11th at 10:00 am at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville, TX.
There will be a viewing at the funeral home the afternoon from 12-5 PM of the 9th and from 8AM-5PM on the 10th. There will also be a viewing with family at 9:30 am February 11th before the service at the cemetery.
A special thank you to Gary and Jerry Davis for all of the love and attention they gave to Warren and Bernice during the last several years. Their sacrifice inspires us all.

Christ Jesus, may we find in you comfort in our sadness, certainty in our doubt, and hope amid the sorrow of this hour.

Jesus Christ, first fruits of those who have fallen asleep, you are risen from the dead and can die no more. You sit at the right hand of the Father where you intercede for us. Hear my prayers for Warren. In baptism he first was washed clean and filled with your light. Lead him over the waters of death, scatter the darkness and bring him to eternal light. Welcome him and give him a place at your heavenly banquet. Give him refreshment, rest, and peace. Heal the pain of all who mourn him passing from this life. Strengthen our hope that we may await your Son's coming again in glory with courage. Grant us all a place in your everlasting kingdom. In Jesus' name amen.

Bernice, Warren had been in my thoughts for the past two weeks, thinking of him often. The day before yesterday, I was thinking how I wish I could talk to him. When I found out, I was so sadden. Warren was one of the best men I ever knew. Never did he do anything wrong. He was such an honest and good man. The many years that we drink coffee together will always be dear to me. My mother says to tell you hello and how sorry she feels for you. We lost my father, Charles, in 2006 and this just brings more memories about Warren and my father, also being very good friends with all their coffee drinking and fishing stories. My condolesences Bernice, stay strong, Warren was such a great man. I am proud that I knew him and had a chance to call him my friend. God bless. David Herrell
