Wanda Ervin Obituary

Wanda Ervin

Abilene, TX

Wanda Ervin, 88, of Abilene, went to be with The Lord on August 1, 2016.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Kimbrough Funeral Home in Cisco, TX. Visitation will be Friday, August 5, 2016, until 7:00 PM, at The funeral Home. Internment will occur on a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco, Texas.

Wanda was born on December 29, 1927 in Cisco, Texas to the daughter of Thomas Morrell Terry and Zora Eppler Terry. She was raised on a farm outside of Cisco, where she loved to run barefoot and ride her horse. She graduated from Cisco High School and attended Cisco Junior College. Subsequently, she began a career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 15 years.

In 1948, she married Sherman H. Ervin, to whom she was married for 52 years until his death in 2000. After 15 years with Bell, she resigned in order to provide full time support for her husband's ministerial duties. Some of his professional associations and achievements were President of the Seguin Texas Ministerial Alliance, Vice-moderator of the Austin Baptist Association, Chaplain for the State Mental Hospital in Austin, assistant director of the Vocational Rehabilitation Division of the Texas Education Association, served on the Governor's Committee on Developmental Disabilities and the Advisory Board of the Texas Education Service Center in Lubbock. After 20 years of state and military service, Sherman retired and entered the Clinical Pastoral Education Program at Hendrick Medical Center, where he served as a resident student chaplain and then joined the staff as a full time chaplain for eight years, retiring in 1997.

Wanda and Sherman shared a great love for nature, and in particular the mountains. In their five decades together, they traveled many times to Estes Park, Colorado to experience God's glorious creations. Wanda was beloved by her whole family, and she had an unconditional love for everyone she knew. Her immediate and extended family felt a special connection with Wanda. No matter what was going on in the world, there was a beloved angel who loved them. She will live on in our hearts forever.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Zora Terry; her husband and love of her life, Sherman; sisters-in-law, Louise Terry, Marlena Terry, and Patsy Terry; and brother-in-law, George (G.A.) Fox.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Fox of Abilene; and brothers, William E (Bill) Terry of White Oak and Tom Terry of Cisco (and wife Marilyn).

The family would offer a special thank you to Hymns of Compassion Home Health Care and Hendrick Hospice. Memorials may be directed to the Cisco Cemetery Association P.O. Box 67 Cisco, Texas 76437.
