Max Rammell Obituary

Our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Max Hegsted Rammell, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 19, 2017. He was surrounded by many who love him and who were anxious for a reunion between Max and his sweet wife, Denice, who passed away four months prior.

Max was born on May 24, 1923 in Tetonia, Idaho to Parley Samuel Rammell and Letitia Josephine Hegsted. He cherished his beloved Teton Valley and farmed potatoes, wheat, barley and hay there with his father and brothers, Leon and Merrill, for many years.

As a young man, Max desired to serve his country in WWII and joined the United States Air Force in 1944. He was first assigned to gunnery school in Las Vegas, NV and from there he was sent to England, where he was assigned to the 95th Bomber Squadron as a tail-gunner in the B-17 Flying Fortress. Max and his squadron flew 35 successful missions before being honorably discharged in 1946 and returning home. Max was decorated with the Presidential Citation, 5 Oak Leaf Clusters and 3 Bronze Battle Stars during his service.

Following WWII, Max served as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was assigned to serve in the Western States Mission.

Max married his sweetheart, Carma Denice Kunz, in 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had eight children: Jeffrey Rammell (Leanne Sant), Christina O'Brien (John Dee O'Brien), Debra Larsen (L. Bruce Larsen), James Rammell (Melanie Moulton) Matthew Rammell (Lisa Buxton), Charles Rammell (deceased) (Colleen McPherson), Rebecca Rammell (deceased) and Jason Rammell (Vicki Thueson). Once their children were raised, Max and Denice set out to serve missions for their church. They served faithfully in Hawaii; Washington, D.C. (Temple); Palmyra, N.Y. and Salt Lake City Temple Square. Max and Denice were also blessed with 33 grandchildren and 87 great-grandchildren.

Max suffered at the death of his sweet Denice in November 2016. He talked often of his loneliness for her and his heart's desire to be with her. He also spoke of his love for his brothers and sisters and their spouses. He was truly anticipating a joyous reunion with the gang. The only surviving member of the Parley and Letitia Rammell Family is Roberta Bird Rammell, wife of Max's brother, Merrill.

We love you, Dad. See you soon.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, at the Harvest Hills Ward Chapel, 612 South Hidden Valley Rd, in Rexburg. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30-7 p.m. and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m., both times at the church. Interment will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Cache-Clawson Cemetery in Tetonia, Idaho, under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online to the family at www.flammfh.com.

Jerry and I were so saddened to hear of the passing of your wonderful father Max. We have loved him and his beautiful Denice for so many years as our boys played sports together in High School. They have been the beautiful example to all they know of righteous parents in the gospel...serving their family and the Lord. I would have loved to see the reunion that was his with his eternal partner and loved ones...a Glorious event I'm sure! We love your family and pray the Lord will bless you in the coming months! Love...Jerry and Shirley Hastings

We loved your Mom and Dad. They were some of our favorite people. We became acquainted with them while serving with them on Temple Square. We enjoyed going out to dinner with them and always enjoyed our visits when they were in St. George. We will miss them, as we know you will, but we know you Dad is a happy man today being reunited with his sweetheart. Talking with him after your Mom's passing we could tell how much he missed her. We are blessed with the knowledge of eternal families. Love, Frank and Vicky Dickson

Dear Loved Ones;
I just loved Uncle Max and Aunt Denice so much. I have fond memories
of our family Christmas parties. I love
the family books that they both worked
so hard on. They were so happy and always willing to invite us into their
home. They always had a hug and a kiss
to greet us with, just like my mom(Aseneth)they were offer you food and
drink.
I remembered when they came down to
Tucson for Uncle Max's reunion with his
flight buddies, and I learned how much
he loved butterflies.
I know he is having a great reunion
with everyone. Uncle Max loved to read
and he knew the Gospel.. He came up to
me after Troy and I were sealed in the
temple he said to me if I didn't understand anything he would be happy
to teach me. Our prayers are with you
and your families. Sorry we couldn't
make it to their funerals. Hugs and Kisses to All. Love, Troy and Letty Wilcox

I have such fun memories of your Dad in the potato fields at harvest time and at your house in Driggs. I'm sad for all of you, but happy for him. I'm sure he didn't like being away from his sweet wife. Love you all.

Hearing about your loss has deeply sadden me. Although no words can take the pain away, I hope the words recorded at Jeremiah 29:1,12 brings comforts your heart.
