Randal Bird Obituary

Randal Scott Bird passed away at home on Thursday, March 27, 2014, surrounded by his family. He courageously battled bile duct cancer for two years. He was deeply loved by his wife, family, and friends.
Born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Kenneth Parley and Carma Joyce Bird, Randy spent his first eight years on the family farm in Milo and then moved to Rexburg. Working with his father and brothers motivated him to work hard and play hard. He attended Ricks College in his hometown and served two years as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Francisco, Calif. This experience taught Randy selflessness and confidence. After his mission, he returned to school, where he met his lifelong sweetheart, Cynthia Roos. They were married in the Oakland LDS Temple on July 20, 1979.
Randy relished the challenge of building his own business. He loved to work with his hands and enjoyed taking risks and learning by experience. Ever the entrepreneur, he worked for his brothers' landscaping business, acquired student housing property and purchased a carpet cleaning franchise in Washington state. After nine years in Rexburg, Randy and Cyndi took a leap of faith and moved their young family to Wenatchee, Wash., to further develop Heaven's Best Carpet Cleaning. For 26 years, he enjoyed growing his business and raising his family in the Wenatchee Valley. It became his new hometown.
A lifelong and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many capacities in his congregation. He most enjoyed working with youth and sharing his testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
A natural athleticism and enthusiasm for the outdoors helped Randy shape his family culture. He would rise early on Saturday mornings and bring his sons to play pick-up basketball at the church gym. Family vacations meant hiking, camping, skiing, boating and natural disasters, sometimes all within the same trip.
Randy was a natural and unassuming mentor. He trained employees to branch out and run their own businesses. He built a home on an acre of land so he could work with his children on construction projects, gardening, and landscaping. After eight years as a Scoutmaster, he earned a swimming merit badge by swimming a mile alongside his boys. All five of his sons became Eagle Scouts. His quiet example became his most lasting influence.
Randy considered his family a priceless legacy. The greatest joy in his life came from loving his wife and seeing his children serve church missions, marry and begin their own families. Randy is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cynthia; children, Nathanial, Nicholas, Natalie, Nicole, Matthew, Mitchell, Michael and Michelle; mother, Carma Bird; and siblings, Mike Bird, Marlon Bird, Robert Bird, Debra Weatherhead and Janet McKeen. He has 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Bird.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, in Wenatchee, Wash.

I am deeply sorry for the loss of your beloved. Having lost a dear relative to pancreatic cancer, there are no words to describe the pain, shock and sorrow.
What has helped me and I hope that this will help you too; "draw close to God and he will draw close to you." Also, welcome support and encouragement from family and friends. This will not take away all of the pain but it can cushion it in order for you to be able to cope and endure.
