Ron graduated from Shelley High School in May of 1986 and proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps that August. He served honorably as a mechanic until his discharge in February of 1991. Following his military service, Ron pursued higher education and earned his bachelor's degree in Human Services from Idaho State University in 2009.
On December 9, 1994, Ron married the love of his life, Amy Suzette Bishoff. To their union, he brought two children, Cody and Erika, and later welcomed two more, Shayne and Darion, making their family whole. In July of 2008, Ron and his family were sealed together for eternity-an event that meant the world to him.
Ron was a dedicated employee of the Idaho Transportation Department, where he worked as the safety coordinator until the time of his passing. A hardworking man through and through, Ron took great pride in his work ethic. He believed in doing things right and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Ron had a deep-seated patriotism that ran through every aspect of his life. He was proud to have served his country and carried that same pride and sense of duty into his everyday actions-whether at work, at home, or in his community.
Outside of work, Ron was happiest in the great outdoors with family. Whether he was hunting, fishing, snow machining, four-wheeling, or roasting a hot dog over an open fire at his beloved cabin, he found joy in nature and family. He loved a good game of pinochle and could often be found elbows-deep under the hood of a car-usually accompanied by a few colorful words after smashing a finger.
Ron was a proud Marine, a loving husband and father, a loyal friend, and a man who gave wholeheartedly to everything he did. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Ron is survived by his wife Amy of St. Anthony; children, Cody (Christa Birch) Butler of Idaho Falls; Erica (Trey) Doherty of Sugar City; Ronnie "Shayne" Butler of St. Anthony; and Darion (Braigen) Hurt of Rexburg; Granddaughters, Shylo Ann Marie Fisher of Idaho Falls, and Baby Bean due in October; sister Kandi Lee Butler of Idaho Falls.
He was preceded in death by his mother Linda, fathers, Elvin Firkins and Ronnie Butler; Grandfather Kenneth; best friend/brother Larry Free and many other beloved friends & family.
