Val Stevens Obituary
The family of Val M Stevens is sad to announce his passing on January 6, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Val was born on December 6, 1949 in Rexburg, Idaho to Franklin M Stevens and Ardis Curtis Stevens. The family lived in Rexburg in the winter and on the dry farm near Canyon Creek in the summer where many wild and crazy adventures took place - riding horses, shooting guns, driving too fast, and having rodeos in the corral. Val loved cars, boats, and dogs. He had a close, loving family who enjoyed working and playing together. A trip to Green Canyon swimming pool was often a Saturday night activity when all the work was done. Val attended schools in Rexburg and graduated from Madison High School. He was active in sports and played basketball and football and was fearless in both, taking on anyone of any size. He was always one to defend the little guy who was being bullied or picked on.
Val started playing the guitar at a young age and became extremely talented at it. He also had a beautiful singing voice. He loved to entertain and had no fear of performing which he did for many years with various bands. He was very generous with his time and means and would help anyone in need. He was always willing to take time with his nieces and nephews to entertain them or teach them how to play the guitar or hang out in his swimming pool or to just joke around. They all loved him and he loved them. He was the life of the party and always very cool.
Val was the consummate salesman. We joked that he could sell ice cubes to Eskimos. He was in the boat business for many years and received the President's Award for the number 1 dealer for Mariah Boats.
Val was always positive and happy. If there is one thing that defined Val it was his eternal optimism. Through all the ups and downs in his life, he always had a big smile, a joke, and a way of making you feel his love. In spite of his toughness, he had a kind and tender heart that endeared him to all. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Jan Ellen. He is survived by 3 brothers: Dennis Stevens (Janette) of Idaho Falls, ID; David Stevens (Nancy) of Nampa, ID; Bart Stevens (Jan) of Rexburg, ID; and 4 sisters: Rita Vernon (Kent) of Sugar City, ID; Ruth Stevens (Bernie) of Fairbanks, Alaska; Peggy Urrutia (Rick) of Pleasant Grove, UT; and Lori Stevens of Rexburg, ID; and his companion Jenett Cooper of Henderson, Nevada. Memorial services will be held at a later date. We love you and will miss you brother!
