I first met Al more than 50 years ago when we were kids at Reno High School in the 50s, and later worked for him when he was a district manager for Nevada Bell in the late 60s. He was, back then, and surely remained so throughout his life, an ideal example of what a "really cool" guy should be. I last saw him in 1987 at a Nevada Bell retirement gathering. He was still "cool" on the outside and warm on the inside. He was an outstanding, innovative leader and manager and a lot of fun to be around. I admired and respected him immensely. I know I join with many other members of his Nevada Bell team in mourning his passing and in offering condolences to you, his family, and to his many, many friends.

We will always remember Al as a friend to us and all SCCA workers. He gave us checkered flags, rides for our workers, and Hot Shoes. A favorite memory was when he gave "the chicken who won the race" to the Chief of T&S at Lime Rock Park in 2006. Sophia, with Al as her pilot, was "faster than a speeding pullet!" We will truly miss seeing him on the track or in the paddock. Our thoughts are with you, Myr.

Al.....a warm hearted, honest, beautiful man.
We stayed at The Cottage of Al and Myr's twice. They are by far the most lovely people we have had the pleasure to meet.
Our hearts go out to Myr , Al's daughters and the grandchildren. We know Al will be watching over you all......with that cheeky grin he always had.

Al was a fine racer and a very pleasant person to know.....always with a positive word and an overflowing enthusiasm he would share with everyone.
And fast too......remembering the day he beat Frank Emmett`s Corvette at Sears Point......we`re still cheering for that one!

To the Leake family - I first met Al in the mid eighties while racing with SCCA here in the West Coast. If you didn't know Al by name, everbody knew him as the guy with the Rubber Chicken. 6 years ago, I started vintage racing and was so happy to see Al again, this time on the grid together. Without fail, he would come over with a big smile and hand shake and remind me the race will not me won in the first corner. My favorite races were me chasing Al, using every trick in the book and leaning from him. His driving skill and Sohpia will be greatly missed in the racing community. There must be one hell of a race going on in heaven tonight. Best and love to you all. Scott, MGA #41

Al: May your final lap be peaceful. It has been many years, but I still think of you fondly and will never forget our sharing the pride of the black 1957 Alpha Spyder Veloce #7...you taught me that the secret to good racing was all in the preparation.... .I am sorry we lost touch...Go With God,

Through his passion for all things related to automobile racing, I had the pleasure of getting to know Al some years ago. My favorite of his ventures was the automobile driving/racing shoes. He had a great sense of humor and was always a pleasure to do business with. My condolences to his family and loved ones. He will be missed by those who knew him.
