Arthur Anderson Obituary

Born in Ashland, Wisconsin on June 12, 1929 to Arthur M. Anderson and Alma Anderson. He resided in Drummond Wisconsin until 1942. Moved to Duluth, Minnesota and then to Eugene, Oregon where he completed high school in 1946 and attended the University of Oregon. Arthur worked in a plywood mill for several years and then entered the motion picture theatre business. Appointed manager of the Fox Theatres in Eugene in 1959 and later transferred to Seattle, Washington in 1962 where he managed the downtown Fox Theatre. Arthur left Seattle in 1963 to manage the Pinney Theatre in Boise, Idaho. Later that same year he met and married Jean Abbey. In 1969 they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah for a short period to open the Fox Cottonwood Theatre and then returned to Boise to open the first twin screen theatre in the state, Odell's Plaza Twin Theatre. Shortly after the opening he became head of operations for Odell's theatres and part owner of Odell's concession company. In 1979 the majority owner of Odell's, Virgil Odell, died and Arthur became full owner of both Odell's theatres and Odell's concession companies. Five years later Odell's theatres was sold and Arthur retained Odell's concession. In 1988, looking for a little change in life, he relocated to Reno, Nevada. Arthur continued to lead the company until 2001 when it was sold to his son.Arthur enjoyed cooking, traveling, jigsaw puzzles and the slots. He is survived by his son, Arthur Anderson, stepdaughter, Stephanie Montano, and his sister, Connie Davis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Anderson, in 2005. During the 1970s Arthur was active as president of the Boise Lions Club and the National Association of Theatre Owners of Idaho.
