Bill passed away at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

He was born in Quincy, Illinois to parents Raymond & Katherine Hull. His family moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado. After graduating from high school, Bill attended Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri. His family then moved to Loveland, Colorado where he met the love of his life, Shirley Gerstner. After graduating from Denver University, Bill's banking career began with Central Bank of Denver where he spent 8 years. He and Shirley married in 1953 and made their home in Denver where they had 3 daughters, Teri Lynn, Kathy Rae and Lori Ann.

Bill took a position with Bank of Las Vegas in 1962 and moved his family to Las Vegas. He was instrumental in helping to start branch banking in Nevada during this time. In January 1964, Bill moved his family to Reno to open Valley Bank of Nevada with Robert Sullivan. He is fondly remembered by the many business owners he helped throughout Northern Nevada. Bill was Executive Vice President and acting President of Valley Bank until he retired from Banking in 1987. Bill and Lee Hirshland then started and ran Public Relations Co. of Nevada for 10 years. Throughout his many years of business, Bill gave back to the community by serving as a Board Member of Reno Sparks Convention Authority, Reno Sparks Chamber of Commerce, Wolf Pack Club, EDAWN, Reno Rodeo Association, Reno Balloon Races, United Way, March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Kiwanis Club, Reno Philharmonic Association, Hidden Valley Country Club, Elks Club and Prospectors Club. Bill was recognized for his outstanding contributions to Nevada's business environment and dedication to its continued growth by then Governor Richard Bryan and Lieutenant Governor Robert A. Cashell. Bill also served as the AARP Nevada State Ambassador and the Congressional District Coordinator from 2001 to 2003.

Bill was an athlete his entire life playing and coaching many sports including football, baseball, softball, bowling, golf, tennis and bike riding. He and Shirley loved traveling. They made many trips throughout the US including the Hawaiian Islands, Canada, Great Britain and Europe.

Bill will be greatly missed by his friends and his greatest achievement, his family, who meant everything to him. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Dorothy. Having just heard of Bill's passing away, I am reminded of how much of a friend and mentor he was to me during my time at Valley Bank. I will always remember him.
My condolences to Shirley and the girls.

Dear Shirley and Teri, Kathy & Lori,

I was so saddened and sorry to read about Bill's passing. I have fond memories of growing up across the street on Sonora Dr. from all of you including all the times I baby sat for the girls. Bill gave me my first real job at Valley Bank as his secretary the summer of 1969 before I started UNR. All of us at Valley Bank had great times. I know you will all miss him tremendously, but I know he is in the loving hands of our Lord. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

God bless,

Tina Gerwin-Walberg
