Chester Sanders Obituary

Chester Paul "Chet" Sanders

Reno - Chet passed away peacefully on January 1, 2018 at Renown Medical Center, Reno, Nevada, with his wife, Betty and grandson, Aulty by his side.

Chet was born in Watertown, Tennessee, on April 19, 1929 to Noah and Mary Lou Sanders, where he spent his years as a youth. He followed his passion for flying and was a civilian airplane pilot until joining the USAF in 1946, where he proudly served for three years before receiving his honorable discharge.

He met the love of his life, Betty Mae, in El Paso, Texas, in 1962, while Betty was visiting her aunt and uncle - they subsequently married in 1966 and spent 52 wonderful years together.

Chet and Betty moved to Reno, Nevada in 1969, where they worked for the Palace Loan and Jewelry. They eventually purchased the Plaza Loan and Jewelry as well as owned/operated Sanders' Mobile Home Park in Sparks, Nevada.

Chet continued his love of flying and maintained his pilot's license until the age of 79. He was an active member in the QB's and enjoyed the camaraderie of his dear QB friends, though his greatest passion was his love for Betty. Chet was also involved in the Sheriff's Reserve and the NRA. Hunting was a much enjoyed activity for Chet, with his hunting dog, Mr. Kim. Chet enjoyed the tropical climate and could be found in Hawaii and/or Florida during the winter months. He is predeceased by his parents, Noah and Mary Lou Sanders, and siblings, Ann, Jeep, Raymond, and Marge.

Chet is survived by his wife, Betty, stepdaughter; Ouida (Tom Pitts), stepson; Ault Hayden Sr., grandsons, Matt Pitts, Ault Hayden Jr. (Ashley), Austin Hayden (Leslie), and great grandchildren, Kaili, Gage, Caleb, and Vanessa.

Memorial service will be held at Mountain View Mortuary on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 11am with a reception immediately following at Hidden Valley Country Club. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Humane Society.

Dear Betty,

It has been many years since I left Reno and many more years since I saw you. I just learned of Chet’s passing a few years ago and it saddens me.

I told him personally long ago how he was a very positive influence on me growing up. I had no father to turn to so I absorbed all I could from him. Both Chet and Dennis Mack fanned a flame within me and inspired me to pursue my career in law enforcement.

Even though I was just the kid down the street, Chet and you treated me as family when I was with you. Chet took me deer hunting which is a fond memory of mine. Loved riding in his Wagoneer and his Toyota Land Cruiser.

To you Betty, I love you and I will carry you as I always have in my heart. I do not know is you will even see this after so long but I wanted to write this. Chet, I will see you in heaven and we will take that flight.....you get left seat Captain!

May God be with You,

Harvey Soule’
