Darius Javaher Obituary

Darius Michael Javaher

How do you say goodbye to a beloved beautiful man? How do you summarize 62 years of vitality, creativity, and deep love? Darius Michael Javaher was born in San Jose California on October 26, 1949 to Carolyn Bull Javaher, a classical pianist and teacher, and James Nasrollah Javaher, a math professor from Iran. He passed away on March 24, 2012, after a year-long battle with brain cancer. Just 7 months earlier, Darius lost his beloved wife of 34 years, Lissa, to a brain tumor of her own. These losses cut deeper than words can express. Their daughter, Carmel Javaher, carries on with the love and support of several aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends, all of whom miss Darius and Lissa terribly.

In 1971, Darius moved to Silver City Nevada with a pack of Romeos, many of whom became his lifelong friends. He married Lissa Korngold in 1977 and they moved to Reno in 1985. Darius worked for 22 years at Saint Mary's Hospital as a cardiac cath technician, and was a devoted husband and father. An accomplished musician, Darius played in several bands, including the Sutro Sympathy Orchestra, Commander Cody, and The Boston Wranglers. He composed and recorded his own original music and produced CDs of the Whitney Myer Band and others. His drive and passion for music was a gift to many. Combined with his love of gardening, birding, family, and good times, Darius thoroughly loved life and believed he was one lucky man.

A Celebration of Darius' Life will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2012, from 2-7pm, at the Silver City Schoolhouse in Silver City, Nevada. Guests are invited to bring a dish for a Mediterranean themed potluck, musical instruments for a jam session, and any photos, stories, or thoughts to share. Contact Beau Guthrie ([email protected] or 619-884-1392) for questions or details. Let's share the love and memories of this beautiful man. Silver believes you're 22 forever…

Darius and I met in 1969 at Sac State at a Rambling Jack Elliot concert. Jack was late for the show, so by default, and with only one guitar between the two of us and a common body of favorite songs, we seized the opportunity and opened the show for the waiting crowd. We instantly realized that we needed to play together, so we started a band Woodruff. One of my favorite memories with the band was doing a show on the Sac State university´s radio station. Darius and I hit it off right away playing and singing two part harmonies to some of our favorite country rock songs as well as originals. The band broke up when I left Sacramento for Washington state, but I forever harbor fond memories of my time with such a talented, exuberant, and enthusiastic musical brother.

I have only just heard of the passing of Lissa and Darius. Their daughter Carmel and I went to school together. I have many fond memories of the whole family. May God watch over them and welcome them into His arms, and may He keep those here on earth comforted during their time of sorrow.

I went to x-ray school with Darius and worked with him at Saint Marys for a time. He was intelligent and thoughtful on current events and was always ready to play music for a cause. I know he loved his family and friends and he will be missed by many. My condolences to all who love him.

We just heard, and are so sorry. They were so beautiful, and I never saw either one of them without a smile. Russell and Cordelia send condolences.
