Edward Spoon Obituary

Edward C. Spoon, Sr.

December 24, 1931

May 11, 2012

Edward C. Spoon, Sr. 80, died May 11, 2012 of complications from dementia and Parkinson's with his sons by his side. Born December 24, 1931 in Reno, a lifelong Nevadan, he graduated from Reno High School and attended UNR. He served the city as 3rd Ward City Councilman twice and even made a mayoral bid. He enjoyed Softball (playing well into his 60's), travel, UNR football and basketball, and was an avid golfer most of his life. Ed was passionate about Reno, a loving father and respected man. His infectious smile and laugh will be greatly missed by all those who knew Ed along the way. He is survived by brother, Glenn of Grants Pass, OR; 3 children, Gene (Reno), David (Dallas, TX) and Edward, Jr. (Las Vegas); 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held in his honor at Tuesday May 22, 2012 at the Mountain View Mortuary, 425 Stoker Ave., at 1 p.m.

With Ed's love of golf and UNR athletics, in lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Edward C. Spoon's memory to The First Tee of Northern Nevada, 1575 Delucchi Ln, Ste 104, Reno, NV 89502, or to Wolf Pack Athletics (UNR Foundation), c/o Ed Spoon Memorial, Mail Stop 162, Reno, NV 89557.

Ed, Susie, Jordan and Sydney, How lucky you are to have had such a wonderful man in your lives and to be blessed with him as family. I know God is welcoming his presence in heaven because I know his spirit with touch other spirits as he did here on earth. I am glad to have known him in my lifetime and you are all blessed to know he will still be watching over you. May you find comfort in his photos, your memories and knowing he is at peace and with his disease. My condolences to the entire Spoon family.
