Eileen T. O'Connell

Eileen T. O'Connell passed away at St. Mary's Hospital after a short illness on June 28. Eileen was born in Sacramento, CA on January 12, 1922 to Walter P. Thompson and Nellie Sheehan. She moved to Sparks at the age of 4. After graduation from Sparks High School she went to work for Nevada Bell as an operator, becoming a supervisor the next 4 years. She is fondly remembered as the "shushing" librarian at the Sparks Branch of the Washoe County Library. Her passions included cooking, reading and grandchildren.

She met Lloyd O'Connell, who was stationed at Stead Army Air Force Base, at the USO and they were married on June 3, 1943. They had 5 children, Terrie Camenisch, Michael (Carol), Heather Zarubi, Danny (Tiana), and Roy (Diane), 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, and her parents Walter and Nellie (Sheehan) Thompson and brothers Walter and James Thompson.

Services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, 2900 North McCarran Blvd, on Thursday, July 5th at 10:30 a.m., then immediately following the service a reception will be held at Immaculate Conception. Graveside services will follow the reception at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery at 1:15 pm.
