Cherished daughter of the late William and Rosalie Phelan; beloved wife of the late Dr. George H. Ahlering; loving mother of Dr. George P. (Julie) Ahlering, Dr. Christopher L. (Marian) Ahlering, Amy (Philip) von Gontard and Dr. Peter (Ruthie) Ahlering; grandmother of George Andrew (Kara), Nicholas, Patrick, and Conor Ahlering; Grace, Christopher, and George W. Ahlering; Liesel and the late Gert von Gontard; Peter, Drew, Ian, and Sophie Ahlering; dear sister-in-law, aunt and friend to many. Born on July 28, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri, Elizabeth attended St. Elizabeth Academy, Fontbonne College and St. Louis University, graduating with a Master's degree in Psychology. She taught at City House School and later in the Communications Department at St. Louis University. She married in 1953 and, after retiring from teaching, was an avid reader and noted book reviewer.
