Elizabeth Goring Obituary

Elizabeth Jeanne Goring

October 10, 1924

March 10, 2012

Elizabeth Jeanne Goring passed away quietly in her home March 10, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was 87 years young. She is survived by her husband, Cleve Anthony Ingham Goring, to whom she was married for 62 wonderful and priceless years. She is also survived by her three children, Anne, Catherine and Michael, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was the best wife, mother and grandmother anyone could hope for and she was the matriarch and guiding light in all our lives.

Mom was born on October 10, 1924 in Washington D.C. She was the second of three children, having two brothers, John and Bill Holman. She attended undergraduate college at Georgetown University and received a Master of Science in Physical Chemistry at Iowa State University. That's where she met our dad who decided he wanted to marry her after only two dates! They were married August 20, 1949. After working briefly to help dad finish his Ph.D in Organic Chemistry and Microbiology, she was determined to become a full time mother and homemaker. However, she was also determined to stay actively involved in the community and school through leadership in PTA, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, American Association of University Women and many others.

Mom and dad had a wonderful life together, raising three children who have all been married to their respective spouses for over 33 years. Once dad retired they traveled extensively throughout the world, returning with many entertaining experiences and stories. Mom enjoyed playing bridge, reading, boating, water skiing, camping, traveling and many other activities, but her highest priority and joy came from loving and taking care of her entire family. She had a great life, left this earth on her own terms with dignity, love, grace and peace and leaves a legacy of family unity and love. We love her and will miss her deeply.
