Ernest Mack Obituary

Ernest Mack

November 3, 1957

June 17, 2017

Ernest W. Mack was born to Reverend Luther Mack Sr. and Missionary Frances Mack on November 3, 1957 at St. Mary's hospital in Reno, NV. Ernest was a graduate of Hug High School and the Denver Vocational Center. He was a lover of all sports and had a special love for wrestling, in which he participated in and received many awards and recognitions.

Ernest worked as a security guard for a number years at the Peppermill Casino in Reno, NV, which he loved. He was also a private security guard for top named entertainers.

Ernest loved people, old and young, and he never met a stranger. He always treated everyone with love and kindness, which is how liked to be treated. Ernest was known for his love of youth. You could always find him encouraging young people to achieve their goals and dreams by telling them to never give up and "keep the faith." He always believed in taking the high road in reaching out to help meet community needs. He was a good listener, a great encourager, made you believe in yourself, and helped people find hope. Ernest was a faithful member of Center of Hope Christian Fellowship.

Ernest is survived by his brother Luther Mack Jr. and his sister Bertha Mack Mullins, his nephew and 5 nieces, 6 great nephews, 3 great nieces, 1 great-great niece, and 2 great-great nephews, and a host of friends.

A Home Going celebration will be held June 26, 2017 at Greater Light Christian Center at 2400 W. 7th St., Reno, NV 89503. There will be a viewing at 9am and service will begin at 10am. The family ask in lieu of flowers, please make donations in Ernest name to the Center of Hope Youth Department at PO Box 1166, Sparks, NV 89431.

I got to know Mr Mack after relocating to Reno and working together on a couple occasions. I never witnessed him have a cross word for any one, even as he so expertly de-escalated crisis after crisis at the Peppermill and the many other venues he worked with such careful consideration. Since leaving Reno, your memory was what kept beckoning me to return. You were a great man who will be missed by a great, many people. GOD'S very best to you, sir, and those blessed enough to have been able to spend a few moments in your presence.
My apologies for the untimeliness of my comments. I was just made aware...

From our days in high school through our times working together at the Peppermill, where he liked to wear a name tag reading "Kato", Ernie was always someone I could count on. He was funny, strong, dependable, and gentle. Our family photo album highlights a picture of Ernie playing Santa at one of the Peppermill Christmas parties. On his lap are a young parking attendant a young coffee shop waitress on their 1st date. My son and his wife have been together for nearly 30 years. We'll miss you, my friend. You blessed us with your love and friendship. May God bless you on your way home.

My friend Ernest was a real kick. Always joking, making you smile and such a carefree spirit. I will always hold dear the many memories we shared during our school years. So for now Ernest take a well deserved rest and I know God's got you in the palms of his hands. And to the family know "Weeping may endure for the night, but JOY will come in the morning.

To Mother Mullins and family, my condolences and prayer for God to strengthen you all during this time of loss. In all my interactions with Brother Ernest, he was always such an encourager and had nothing but kind words. Now resting in the arms of his master, means no more earthy worries. I can only imagine what you're feeling, but I know God will see you all through. God Bless.
