Shane n Ryan the news of your pops passing away gave me a hurntened heart for you both.. Your dad was a great man that I looked at as family we practically grew up together in sports, camping, fishing, and never the less girls. He had all the advice and knowledge for all of those catagories. Jack was someone who has instilled great childhood memories of growing up with my best freind. "Painer and I auss" was our nicknames he gave us along with the occasional "meat heads" my favorite time would have to be all of them from the trips to the ranch and riding in the back of the truck with mitzee covered in dog hair to cruisn in the good ol' olds to our favorite taco joint "Jimboys" the snowy hot tub days were fun as well I always felt home with time we spent with your dad. My prayers are with you Shane n Ryan. My memories will live on through some of the best times of my life .. god bless you Jack. love "auss" Austin Dugger

Ode to Jack Wood
Born of parents of goodness rare,
Who lavished him with tender care,
From this fair start he did proceed,
And chose the life that he would lead.
With wit and humor and innate skill,
His family's needs he strove to fill,
Along with this, one thing is sure,
He loved the hunt, the chase, the lure.
All who knew him can rightly say,
He touched their life in his own way.
Go forth and prosper our absent friend,
And may God's blessings never end.

Regan,
Although I never met your father, he sounds like a colorful man based on your written portrayal. My condolences to you and your family.

Shane,
I was saddened to hear about the loss of your father. He was a very special man and you should be very proud of him. I know Austin loved to go to "Jack's" and spend time there with you. I really appeciated all the rides Jack gave Austin to your little league games and football games when I was unable to get off work to do it. May God grant you peace in this time of unbearable sorrow.

This was Dad.

Elko is a small, old, mining and railroad town located in Northeastern Nevada. It is a community no different than many little towns across the Western United States. My great grandmother once saw Bing Crosby, an Elko resident, put a $20 bill in the church collection in the early 40's. Dad was Western. Not Eastern. Western. He was what you might call, a "man's man". In Northern Nevada, his life and times were almost legendary. Dad was a "pick up the check" type of guy. He was the "life" of the party. Very unpretentious. Gregarious and humorous. A risk taker. He wasn't afraid of anybody or anything. He came from the era of the Western bar room fight, a character similar to that of John Wayne. Visualize being a kid and hearing a story of the time your Dad "knocked out" one of The Hell's Angels in Winnemucca for trying to run him over on a motorcycle.
Professionally, Dad had a talent for finding undervalued real estate. He built custom homes and small apartments. He bought mobile home parks and ranches. He helped pioneer the building of modern mini storage, responsible for getting the owner of warehouse giant "Storage One" in the business. He built a motel on Desert Inn road across from the Las Vegas Convention Center called, "The Convention Inn". He bought the ground next to the "Roulette Rapids" water park on Boulder Highway, and was slated to build a miniature golf complex before the 1979 recession caused countrywide cancellations of financing. By 35, he never worked for anyone else again.
Dad said when he was "feeling good", he felt he could "whip the world". Though cursed with health issues throughout his life, he made the very most of being well with confidence and optimism. He had a special bond with his mother. He spoiled his kids and gave us a lifetime of lessons and experiences. Summers with him meant fishing trips, baseball games, and lots of laughs. Christmastime meant shopping, going to movies, and driving through town in the Reno snow. Dad had such a big heart. He was in many words; so big- so strong- so rugged- so handsome- so confident- so funny- so generous- so loving- so supportive- so fun. Imagine growing up with a Dad like that. I love you, Dad. Your son, Regan.

Regan,
We have been through a lot together over the years, the hardest being the loss of our fathers. My thoughts go out to you and your family during this sad time. I know how close you were and the strong bond between you and your dad. He was a genuine guy, a real mans man, who always looked out for his children. I know you and Tiffany will keep Jack fresh in your memories and all the great things he accomplished over his life, not to mention all you have both accomplished. I hope you know how much we all care about you and your families. Love, Craig

Dear Regan, I was so sorry to hear about your dad. Although I had not met him, I'm sure he was a great father to have raised such a great son. You had such an impact on our family growing up and have continued to be a true friend to all of us. You did such a wonderful job at my husband's funeral and I still chuckle with tears when I watch the video. Bless you and your family. All my love, Joyce Tomlinson

Regan and Tiffany,
So sorry for the loss of your Father. My cousin "Jackie" was a kind man and helped me purchase my first vehicle, played a mean game of chess, and was my running partner ( around Virginia Lake) in the late 70's. He was a good man and will be missed. God Bless you and your family in this difficult time. Terry Madigan

Jack and I were partners in several venture when I lived in Reno (1970-80 including our Real Estate Company, Wood, Russell and Associates. Great guy, though we didn't stay in touch after I left in 1980. Sorry for his passing.

Dear Children of my cousin Jack,
I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing on. I haven't had a chance to see him in years and years. When we were kids he used to play with me when I would visit - and I would have such fun with him. Whenever I think of him - I think of him smiling. Uncle Carl and Aunt Dora adored him and he adored his children.
My deepest sympathy to you in this sad time.
Love,
