Joseph Majusiak Obituary

"Old fishermen never die, they just get tangled up in their flies."
Joseph William Majusiak Jr. passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010 in the company of his family. Joe, born August 21, 1947 in Hazelton, Pa. to Olga and Joseph Majusiak, spent more than 30 yrs of his life living, working, and fishing in the Reno area. He married Mary Esther Matzoll September 22, 1985. It was here that they raised their two children, Bryon William and Evelyn Kathleen. Joe grew up in Watertown, S.D., and graduated from Watertown High School in 1965. He received a full-ride scholarship to Cal-Tech but returned to South Dakota before graduating. He drove long-haul trucks with his sister, Linda, for 10 years. Joe dedicated his life caring for others. In 1985, he graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Most of his nursing career was spent in affiliation with St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. He worked in emergency medicine, hospice, and home health. The latter part of his career he spent working as a nurse for Advanced Orthopedics. He viewed his respected colleagues more as a second family than coworkers.
Joe was a voracious reader and possessed a wealth of knowledge unparalleled by even Alex Trebek. Joe found the most happiness in life playing guitar, fishing, eating ice cream, and being a father. He felt the most at home in the wilderness—nothing was more important to him than coveting the isolation and beauty he found there. Joe touched the lives of everyone who crossed his path. He was blessed with a spirit that couldn't be contained in his body and joy radiated out of him. His laugh could warm the coldest of hearts. Joe is survived by his mother, Olga Majusiak, and his seven brothers and sisters: Marie, Theresa, Jim, Anne, Andrew, Jerry, and Helen. Joe was a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews. His memory is also honored by his best friend, Mary Esther Majusiak. Joe leaves his legacy with his most treasured accomplishments, his children, Bryon William Majusiak and Evelyn Kathleen Majusiak. A celebration of life will be held at 1 PM Saturday, December 11th, 2010 on the Truckee River, via the East end of Mayberry Park. Followed by a reception at Joe's home. For more information please contact the family at 775-787-1838. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Nature Conservancy or Saint Mary's Hospice Program in Reno, Nevada.

Joe I'm so proud of you. Your courage and grace in death was only exceeded by the courage and grace in which you lived your life. I know you knew the truth in my heart I only wish I had one more chance to say thanks for all you've given me. I hear you...it would be more than a minute! I'll always carry you with me and I'll continue to love and care for our children, whom are the greatest gift we shared. with everlasting love, ME

You were a gentle, strong-hearted man with so much to give, and you wanted little for yourself. I have no doubt that you continue on with no regrets and in good spirit. Thank you for sharing a few years of your life with me, they meant more than you could have known. "My greatest hope is that you make a commitment within yourself to be the difference you want to see in the world. That is the greatest experience you can have; a life well lived and full of love." -MAE

I think I may have known Joe the least out of anyone who knew him. But the sadness that I'm feeling speaks volumes about the kind of man he was. In the few times I had the pleasure of his presence, he bestowed upon me a warmth and grace few people give up so early in a friendship. He'll be missed by all, I'm sure.

Joe, you will be missed greatly. I only knew you for a few years, but they were good years. You were and still are a great man. You will never be forgotten.
