Lucy Lundgren Obituary

Lucy Emma

LUNDGREN

1919-2009

Lucy Emma Lundgren passed away peacefully on June 16, 2009.

The daughter of Latvian immigrants Charles and Ottilie Kressling of Wilmington MA. Lucy was the middle child of three girls. She graduated from Wilmington High school, MA then pursued a higher education at Kent State University. Her education was cut short due to World War II. She joined the Navy and served proudly as a W.A.V.E specialist "S". After leaving the Navy, she worked as a bookkeeper in Boston where she met her future husband Paul. They moved to Reno in 1958 and had their two daughters, Sara and Diana.

Lucy gained a degree in Early Childhood education and was not only a lead teacher, but also a supervisor for Head Start. Later, Lucy and her husband purchased and operated Virginia City Tours. Lucy was a member of the United Congregational Church, member of the Rebecca Mitzpah Lodge I,O.O.F. #26, and a volunteer at T.M.C.C. adult education. Lucy enjoyed singing in the church choir, gardening, history, the English language and her country. She loved her family dearly.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lundgren. She is survived by her daughters, Sara Kuttel (Carl) of Truckee and Diana Crites (Loyd) of Reno; grandchildren, Rachael Juiliano (Jeff) of Truckee, and Brian Kuttel of San Francisco. She is also survived by her sisters, Emily Seeglitz of Massachusetts and Lilli Richardson of North Carolina, numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at The Pond House, Dr. Hicks, and the nurses and staff of Vista Care Hospice who made this journey full of laughter, grace and peace.

A memorial service to celebrate Lucy's life will be held on Tuesday June 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. at O'Brien, Rogers and Crosby Funeral Home, 600 West Second Street in Reno. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.

My aunt Lucy, what good memories, and many of them too; while staying with us in Newton, MA those wet sponge fights in the kitchen, driving us to Farm Pond to swim on hot days singing all the way. Visits to her in Connecticut on her farm, and how she put us to work haying the field! Later, my visits to Nevada, most memorable driving with her home from Truckee at night down the mountain and her car lights went out! On they came, Lucy didn't miss a beat, I missed a few heart beats. I will miss her dearly and will always remember her great laugh, smile and such a positive attitude that was so contagious. My love to Sara and Diana. Tina (Seeglitz)Dwyer

My Aunt Lucy,

What a loving and fun lady. Never a cross word did I ever hear when I was around her. Always opening her home and heart to us. I have great memories.

My mother and I both worked with Lucy at Headstart and my sister was in her classroom. May it bring you comfort to know how deeply others care.
