Matthew Bardin Obituary

1988 ~ 2015
Matthew Reid Bardin (Matty, Matty Bodine, Bardy) was born on June 23, 1988 to Chris and Jill Bardin. He was immediately adored by his older siblings Halen and Jason. Matt graduated early from Alta High School, excelling in theatre and ballroom dance. He interned with the Robby Seay Band in Texas and spent time at Hillsong School of Ministry in Australia as well as the University of Utah. He followed his sister to Boulder, Colorado before settling into a career in reality TV, working on Top Chef, Worst Cooks in America, Breaking the Faith, The Glee Project among many others. He inherited his dad's strong work ethic and took his job responsibilities very seriously. Matt loved international travel and made memories in Ireland, Europe, Thailand, Malaysia, and Iceland. His friendships were most important to him, and he devoted his time to staying connected as he bounced between New York and Los Angeles. Sharing laughter, silliness, song and dance, Matt made friends wherever he went. He loved singing as well as playing piano and guitar. He joins his grandfathers, Uncle Bardy, Cousin Garrett and Brother Jess in the peace and love of Heaven. He is survived by his parents Chris and Jill, sister Halen (Asher), brother Jason (Aeron), nephew Silas Reid, niece Danyka, grandmothers Marjorie and Katie, loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He was much loved by his community in Salt Lake, New York, Los Angeles and the TV industry. Our lives are richer for having him with us for 26 years.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the family at any Mountain America Credit Union or to Tifie Humanitarian for a clean water project in Africa. A celebration of Matt's life will be held on January 10th at 11:00 a.m. at the Fellowship (615 East Sego Lily Drive, Sandy Utah 84070).

I am always touched when a TV show remembers the passing of one of it's own. When I saw the tribute tonight and the young age Matthew passed I felt compelled to learn more. I was very touched when I saw we are nearly neighbors (we are in Evanston, WY and I lived in Salt Lake for many years). In reading about your son I can't help but think how proud you must be of him and what a full life he lived for such a young man. May your memories of him bring you comfort and many smiles.

The first time Matt and I laughed and talked was all the way to Flaming Gorge with the high school group from South Mountain Community Church. Then I heard him sing and develop his piano and guitar! He and Ben used to sing non-stop together! I think Ben is the music leader he is today because of the influence of Matt's singing in his life too! Thank you God for choosing Jill and Chris to be the parents of beloved Matt, for raising him well, with a legacy of love and laughter!

Jill and Chris - My heart aches for you and your little family. I can't imagine the pain you must be feeling at this time. You have been in our thoughts and prayers continuously. I hope that your days are filled with memories of your son and all of the wonderful things that he accomplished during his (too short) life on this earth. I truly hope that your hearts continue to feel comfort and peace at all times but most especially when you feel you can't go on.

Matt is and will always be something special to me. He saw me, and loved and befriended my insecurities and eased my discomfort. I have been truly blessed by knowing him, and his presence will be forever missed. I've never met a soul with such casual care for anyone, and the love he showed to all was insurmountable, no matter how well or little ya knew him. Getting me to face my adversaries and life head on is something I will take with me forever from him. Staying up till 8 am talking about life, cherished memories. I love you buddy, I will miss your voice and smile among so many other things. I love you!
