Michael Rivera Obituary

Michael

RIVERA

Michael Rivera, 77, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday April 15, 2009 following a two year battle with kidney cancer. He is survived by his wife, Ursula; four daughters; seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Michael was born on May 8, 1921 in Los Angeles where he grew up and went to school. Michael served in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict. Following his tour, he worked as an aircraft electrical mechanic for Continental Airlines for 42 yrs. Michael and Ursula loved camping and traveling. Together, they visited the Great Wall of China, took an Alaskan cruise, skied in the Austrian/Swiss Alps, and toured Europe. They camped in Yosemite, Lake Louise, Canada, Encenada, Mexico, Yellowstone, and Glacier National Park in Montana as well as other locations in the US. Michael was a scuba diving enthusiast and explored sunken WWII ships in Truk Lagoon in the Micronesian islands and dove off the California coast in Catalina.

In 1993, Michael retired and he and Ursula moved to Reno and built their dream house. He loved Reno and enjoyed going to Lake Tahoe. Mike and Ursula enjoyed Reno and California's colorful gold and silver historical sites. Michael was a loving, loyal husband and father. Telling entertaining and colorful tales about his adventures was something Michael loved. His boyish sense of humor made everyone smile. He would listen to his family and friends in need and give advice from his heart. Heaven is in for a treat. Michael will be remembered and missed by all that knew him.

A Recitation of the Holy Rosary service will be held on Saturday, April 18th at the Walton Funeral Home, 875 West Second Street, Reno. The service will begin at 10 a.m.
