TOBEY
Nason Anthony Tobey, 95, of Reno, NV passed away on October 22, 2009 from a brief illness. Nason, who like to be called Tobey by his friends and family, was born on September 28, 1914 in Beitmeri, Lebanon. At age four he immigrated to the United States though Ellis Island, where he then moved to Ohio and later resided in Los Angeles. He was the youngest of ten children, four brothers, and five sisters, two of which passed away at a young age. As a child he worked to support his mother and siblings. He worked at a produce stand and as a milk man; he was also in the restaurant business. His true passion however, was the grocery store business, Tobey owned five different grocery stores throughout his lifetime; he love interacting with people and making his customer's happy. Tobey also loved to build homes; he built homes in Ojai, CA and later in Reno, NV.
Tobey loved to travel, especially with his loving wife, Arline Lillian Tobey, who he married in 1954. They loved to go on cruises, and to Hawaii, and always included their friends and family. Together they traveled to some of their favorite places in the world, including Paris, Ireland, Switzerland, and Tobey's favorite Lebanon. Tobey loved Lebanon; he enjoyed the culture, scenery, food, and most of all his family who he visited there.
Tobey loved his family more than anything, together Arline and Tobey had a daughter, Patty Lydick, of Reno, NV. He was also survived by his son, Richard Tobey, of Missoula, MT, and his daughter, Dottie Bower, of Donnelly, ID. Tobey has nine grandchildren, three of which lived with him in Reno, Richelle, Kaitlyn, and Justin Lydick, he also has eight great-grandchildren.
After retiring from the grocery store business he moved to Reno, NV, where he started new business ventures with his son-in-law, Douglas Lydick. When his wife passed away in 2004, of a long illness of cancer, Tobey was heartbroken, however he turned to his family for support. He continued to travel with his nephews, and in 2006 he traveled to Lebanon; however the timing could not have been worse. He was caught in the war that occurred in Lebanon and was happily escorted out by the United States Marines. He loved to tell the story about how he was rescued by our Marines and got to ride on the U.S.S. Nashville into safe territory. Tobey was never fearful, he always felt he was on an adventure; this proved to be true when he decided to visit Lebanon for the last time in 2008. In 2009 he traveled on his last cruise to the Caribbean, with his nephew, Mike Tobey. When Tobey was not traveling he spent his days at his "office", also known as the Peppermill. He loved the atmosphere, the people, and the perks, and he enjoyed sharing these with his family.
Tobey was an amazing man who lived a full life of 95 years. He accomplished all of his goals, and was proud of his accomplishments. Having come from nothing, Tobey was truly a man success and had the most generous heart. He always put others first and he will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
