Norma Hansen Obituary

Norma Irene Hansen

Norma passed into the arms of Our Lord May 1, 2013 after fighting a brave battle with the complications of a recurrent breast cancer.

Norma was born April 15, 1926 in Grand Junction, CO to Charles and Esther Peach. The youngest of six children, she had many adventures growing up on the family farm and her stories were a great source of entertainment. Her family nickname of "Peaches" followed her throughout her lifetime. She was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers and two sisters.

Norma worked as head hotel clerk for the Riverside and the Ponderosa before becoming in charge of the ID Badge Security Dept. at the airport, a program she was very proud to have been a part. She joined the Sheriff's Dept. and became head of Business License Division until her retirement.

After her retirement, Norma and her husband Bob became snowbirds traveling to Yuma, AZ in the winter and Rancho Haven, NV in the summer. With Bob's illness, they relocated to the Villas in Sparks, NV to be near family. After Bob's passing Norma moved to the Cascades of the Sierra where she resided at the time of her death. Those who knew Norma knew of her great passion for a good game of Pinochle, Hand and Foot, gardening, the SF Giants and the Denver Broncos. In her younger years Norma was an avid outdoors enthusiast with hobbies in camping, fishing, hunting and horseback riding.

Norma had that special something which drew people to her. She was always smiling and made others feel better by listening and being a friend. She said her mission in life was to make others happy and enjoy the small blessings.

Norma is survived by children Linda (Mel) Swaim, Lorraine (Jim) Lappin, Robert (Carla) Strand and David (Sherri) Strand. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thanks all of mom's "angels" for their support during this difficult time as well as Dr. Reddy and the physicians, nurses and staff of Renown Medical and Life Care Center for their compassionate care.

A celebration of Norma's life will be held on Saturday, May 11 from 1-4pm at the Cascades with inurnment to follow at a later date at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Norma's name.

I worked with Norma in Washoe County Business Licenses for some time and she
was a wondeful, caring and fun person.
Both Bob and Norma were great people
we had some great times together. She also brought Bob and I together and we have been together ever since.
I am sorry that we had lost contact in the years. She certainly will be missed.

I worked with Norma at the Sheriff's Department in the Business License Section and Records Division in the 1980's for s couple of years. Norma was extreely capable and a valuable asset to the Washoe County Sheriff's Department and to the citizens of washoe County whom she served so well. My condolences to her family on her passing.
