Norman Cliff Obituary

Norman

CLIFF

Norman Cliff, 85, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2008, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born in Washoe Valley on August 17, 1923 at the Cliff Ranch that his grandfather, Samuel Cliff, purchased in 1873. He was the son of Alvin Cliff, who also was born on the Ranch, and Alice Slingerland Cliff, who was born in Carson City.

Norman attended the one room school at Franktown for his first eight grades and graduated from Reno High School. Ranching with his brother, Donald, was his life-long occupation. He was very mechanical and new farm equipment was like a new toy to him. Being quite gregarious he loved to visit and ”laugh it up” with his friends.

In the early days in Washoe Valley fighting fires was mostly by farmers and other volunteers. He was a serious volunteer and had great respect for the professional firefighters and their advanced techniques.

He is survived by his brother, Donald; sister, Joyce; niece, Barbara Jean and her son, Shane. Interment will be in the family plot at Lone Mountain Cemetery. At his request there will be no service. Donations may be made in his memory to the Range Conservation Foundation, attn. Ed Depaoli, PO Box 1595, Carson City, NV 89702.

Norman was my cousin as a young boy I have fond memories of visiting the Cliff Ranch with my Father Fred Medaris and Betty Medaris(Shaw) and my brother John. We watched them milk cows, harvest hay. Norman ,Don and Joyce always made us feel welcome. There was always laughter. They all new how to work hard.

I remember seeing Norman at the ranch, weddings, funeral, parties, etc.
His laugh was always great to hear- very unique and special.
I loved to hear his stories.
I wish Don and the rest of those who were close to Norman, the best.

We remember Norman's smiling face and infectious laugh. He was always glad to see us and talk about happy times.
We treasure memories of moments spent at the barn and around the kitchen table.
We miss our old and loyal friend.
