Reno - Phyllis G. Weiss
A Life Well Lived
April 19, 1926 - March 23, 2021
Phyllis Weiss passed away on March 23, 2021, in Reno, Nevada at 94 years of age, just shy of her 95th birthday. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Howard Weiss, and her 3 living children, Wendy Weiss Lee, Michael Weiss (Kim Brown), and Nancee Weiss Siebert (Jeff Siebert). Phyllis was a beloved mother of her late son David Weiss, devoted sister to the late Virginia Cruze, loving Grandmother to the late Jessica Steele, loving Great Grandmother to the late Travis Weiss, and loving mother-in-law to the very recently passed Sue Weiss (David Weiss). Phyllis is also survived by cherished Grand-daughters Tami Weiss, Teri Weiss Hawkins, Dana Weiss Albright (Scott Albright), and Lily Siebert Penfold (Jared Penfold); Grandsons Timothy Weiss, Michael Weiss Jr. (Elyse Manteris Weiss), and Joshua Lee (Jennifer Lee); Great-Granddaughters Jordyn Lee, Jamie Lee, Caitlynn Weiss, and Adrienne Weiss; Great Grandsons Cody Weiss and Colton Weiss; Nieces Deborah Cruze Bellis (Marshall Bellis), Sandra Cruze, and Susan Cruze Howland (Larry Howland).
Phyllis was born in Hebron, New Hampshire. She later lived in Boston, Massachusetts. Phyllis and Howard married in 1949 and made their way from Boston to California, with a short time spent in Cleveland, Ohio. They lived for many years in Southern California before eventually moving to Reno. Phyllis's love for animals was first directed towards raising and breeding miniature toy fox terriers. Years later, she and Howard purchased a gelding named "Reno" for their daughter Nancee and this led to decades of involvement with horses, primarily quarter horses. Phyllis became a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association. Alongside her husband, Howard, Phyllis was a successful breeder of quality quarter horses. Her trophy-winning gelding "Registered Male" won many awards including High Point Junior Western Pleasure. Among the various coveted titles she received, Phyllis was High Point Breeder of California quarter horses.
Phyllis loved to travel; she and Howard visited a variety of destinations throughout the world, sharing 'adventures' and making memories. Whether taking a helicopter ride to an Alaskan glacier, floating along a river inside the Barbados caves, hugging a Koala bear in Australia, skimming along a Waikiki wave in an open Catamaran, or playing a casino slot machine, Phyllis was someone who lived a full life and was always seen smiling in her photos. At home, she always made space for a garden where she spent hours tending to her flowers and home-grown vegetables. She took great pride in her family and looked forward to having the entire family gathered together for food and festivities where everyone could enjoy Phyllis's old-fashioned cooking.
Phyllis's family and friends mourn her sudden passing and will miss her dearly.
Services are pending. The family anticipates holding a celebration of life, with details to be announced later.
