Richard Posadas Obituary

Richard Lee Posadas

Reno - July 11th 1942 was a special day. It was the day Tony and Mary Posadas would welcome Richard Lee Posadas into the world.

Richard was born in Midvale, Utah but eventually the Posadas' would move to Las Vegas, NV.

Richard was an active boy. He decided to join Boy Scouts and loved it. Which is where he would meet some of his life long best friends.

Richard went to Bishop Gormon high school and that's where he met Judy Smith. Richard and Judy had a special friendship. After graduation Richard joined the US Navy and began his 4 year journey on the USS Coral Sea.

While in the Service Judy and Richard would write each other and he would visit her when he was on leave. After the 4 years was over Richard would return home and marry Judy on June 18th 1965.

Richard became a chef in a couple popular Vegas hotels such as The Landmark, The New Frontier and The Flamingo Hilton. Then decided to follow his heart and begin a new career as a Las Vegas Police Reserve. That's when he knew he loved being in law enforcement

In 1973 Richard and Judy moved to Reno with their two children.

Richard was very passionate about his job as a policeman. He once saved a guy from jumping off the old First National Bank in downtown Reno. Eventually Richard was promoted to Sergeant but he also worked in intelligence & Internal Affairs but he liked patrolling the streets more than anything.

In 1984 Richard and Judy would file for divorce. But eventually they became better friends than they were before and they were best friends until the very end.

In 1993 Richard radio in'd his last 10-42 call as he retired from the RPD. Even though Richard was retired he did a couple other jobs as Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Police and later "Captain Safety" at Granite Construction.

Richard had a great sense of humor and was the kind of guy to make you homemade chicken noodle soup when you were sick. To know him was to love him.

On March 15th 2021 Richard went to sleep and radio in'd his final 10-41 to begin his new journey in heaven.

Richard is survived by daughter Debbie Smith (Billy), son Steven Posadas and grandchildren Broc and Hunter Posadas, Dalton and Shay Smith, his significant other Lian and his aunt Millie and too many cousins to name.

There will be a viewing at Walton's Funeral Home on 875 W. Second St. on April 2nd, 2021 from 9am-11am followed by services in Fernley at Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 14 Veterans Way at 1pm. Then a "Celebration of Life" at 600 W. 2nd St.

The family invites you to leave a message of condolence on Richard's Memory Wall.

Dick and I go way back to our time growing up in Las Vegas. Dick, Dave Macauley and I were inseparable. We formed bonds as scouts in Troop 91 and became Eagle Scouts together. Dick was a truly wonderful friend throughout the years, and I will deeply miss him. He always really wanted to be a cop, and I know he was a great one. I will always treasure the times we had together. My true friend will always be remembered. Until we meet again.... Mike

I have such good memories of Richard. He was two years younger than me. In my younger years I would see him occasionally. He was always a lot of fun to be around. In later years I would occasionally see him at family events. He was always so friendly and we could talk forever.

I just heard of his passing and want to express my sympathy to his family.
When I last spoke to him I could tell he was so proud of his family. You meant a lot to him and I'm sure you have many great memories to sustain you. I wish I could have met you.

(Our mothers were first cousins.)

I hadn't seen Dick in many years, but my memories of him are still strong. He was there for my teenage years, my high school graduation, and my wedding. No matter what I went through good or bad he was always there to give advice whether I wanted it or not. thanks for the memories.

Dick and I were the best of friends for almost 50 years. Shortly after this friendship began Dick was adopted by the entire Martin family. My Dad would refer to Him as his 3rd son. Dick had a way with people, a real charm. Dick was always the first to offer help, and really meant it! His sense of humor was so witty you could not help laughing. He and I never missed a Birthday call. I will miss our lunches, dinners and phone calls. Most of all, like everyone else, I will miss Dick.
