Roy Kidder Obituary

Roy Sheldon Kidder

July 31, 1937

July 5, 2015

Roy was born in Tonopah Nevada on July 31, 1937 and died in Carson City Nevada on July 5, 2015.

He lived his first three months in Manhattan, Nevada where his father worked on the dredge. They moved to Honey Lake for five months before moving to Hawthorne, Nevada.

While growing up in Hawthorne, Roy excelled in sports. He played baseball, basketball, and ran track. He was also football manager, in Honor Society, Block H, and went to Boys State.

He graduated from Mineral County High School and went onto the University of Nevada, graduating in 1959. He played baseball for Jake Lawlor. Al Seeliger recruited him to teach and coach in Carson City. He taught Social Studies, Nevada History and Physical Education. He was also department head for six departments. He coached baseball, basketball, softball, golf and helped with track. Roy was a coach whose philosophy was: family first, then academics and then sports.

Roy worked for BLM during the summer months fighting fires, and many of his students worked with him there. He made many lasting friendships while being engaged in this aspect of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Cookie, his daughters, Genine (Derek) Rowley, Sheri (Mike) Fletcher, and Shelley (Dave) Van Sickle, nine grandchildren; Adrienne (Dustin) Sullivan, Glenn, Alex, Allan, Spencer, Theresa, Mason, Sheldon, Geni, and two great grandchildren; Harrison and Preston.

His services will be held on Thursday, July 9th at 11 a.m. at the C-Hill Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-saints on 1331 McKay Drive.

One of my favorite memories of Roy is with his family watching JAWS after cleaning out the front drain in front of their house from a flash flood. Genine was in and out of the room, Sheri was laughing at Shelly as she screamed when the shark came out of the water and Cookie rolling her eyes. Precious! What a great family, what a great person.
