Stephen E. Jacobs passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 22, 2013. He was born in Bronx, NY on Nov. 27, 1938. Steve enlisted in the Army after graduating form City College with a masters in Social Work. He worked in the field until he retired in 2003. He was highly regarded and received many awards and recognition for the work he did with the mentally ill population in New York State.
After his retirement, he moved to Reno, NV with his wife Susan. When he got to Reno, he became highly involved in the Opera and was a member of the opera guild.
When the issue of medical care for seniors became so serious, he joined S.H.I.P. [State Health Insurance assistance program] He volunteered at the senior center to assist the people get appropriate and least expensive health coverage. He often talked with other organizations about this issue, and was a strong advocate for trying to get more funds for their care.
He is survived by his loving wife Susan, his brother Michael, his daughter Elizabeth, his son Matthew, and 2 grandchildren, Mason and Noah.
Everyone who knew him loved his humor and wisdom. He will be missed by many.
At his request, he will be cremated and did not want a service or memorial. He requested that donations be made to the Humane Society.
