Tom William Cook II

Tom William Cook II, 64, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2011 at his residence in Fernley, after a courageous battle with cancer. His family was by his side at the time of his death. Tom was born July 6,1947 in Sacramento, CA. to Tom Sr. and Hildegard Cook. The family moved to Fernley in 1959. Tom graduated from Fernley high school. He went into the US Army in 1967 returning home in 1969. Tom married the love of his life, Kathleen Pennington in 1971 and they moved to Fernley in 1977.

Tom owned and operated his own trucking company for several years. He later went to work for Reddaway trucking company in Sparks, a career that lasted 25 years. Tom's passion was flying and he did so every chance he got. He was very active in the flying community, donating many hours of flight time, helping out with the Young Eagles program. He was also an Aerial photographer, operating his company, Sky High Photography. He loved the outdoors, hunting and especially fishing.

Preceded in death by his parents. Tom is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathy Cook; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Dare Manning; son, Tommy; all of Fernley; son, Shawn and partner Brian of Reno; grandchildren, Samantha and Cameron Manning of Fernley; sisters, Pam and Chip Kramer of Fallon; Jacqueline and Jerry Florence of Minden; Carolyn and Skip Garaventa of Reedsport, Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews; mother-in-law Edith Pennington of Fallon.

Donations may be made in Tom's memory to the Young Eagles Program -EAA PO Box 3086 Oshkosh, WI. 54903-3086- Please note that it is for the Young Eagles Program.

Services with Military Honors to be held at Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 10:00 AM.

i have lost a good friend,and we have done a lot of things together. My heart goes out to all of the family. He will be greatly missed, we have been friends for 25 years. I will miss tom very much, and he will be in my thoughts and prayers!

My heart goes out to Tom's family. One thing I will always remember is running with Tom on many trips across Nevada to Salt Lake City, We always talked on the CB all the way across. He will be missed. All the best.
